The sun was peeking out behind the gray clouds after a chilly thunderstorm had passed. Savannah, Georgia was notorious for not having predictable weather. Bucky stood at the ticket booth in the train station with watchful eyes. He usually avoided crowded areas, but after being on the run for the past year, he learned that crowds were harder for his trackers to find him. Especially if it were Captain America and his friends. They weren't the best at tracking his whereabouts, but they have come close a few times. He knew that it was time to change tactics and use overpopulated areas to his advantage.
Bucky waited on the platform with his hood up and carefully scanned the area as people walked past him. No one looked suspicious and it made Bucky slightly relax. He was tired of running, but, until Hydra's organization was destroyed, he would stay cautious. The intercom announced his train's arrival and he swung his backpack on. He grabbed his duffel bag then hastily walked to the waiting line. When everyone gathered inside, Bucky found a vacant seat and sat by the window overlooking thick woods. He stared out searching for any suspicious activity and found none thus far. After a long wait, the train was finally moving and he leaned into his seat hoping that the trip will be pleasant. Steve had been searching for Bucky for a long time and, even though Bucky wanted to remember who he was, he couldn't let himself be found. He wasn't ready to face Steve. He knew Steve would be ashamed of knowing what he had done while working for Hydra. Bucky had been slowly regaining his memories and the more he would remember the more he despised himself at letting his name be tainted. At night, Bucky begged to be forgiven for the pain he caused for all those years. How could Steve forgive him after he slaughtered so many innocent lives?
"Is this seat taken, dear?"
Bucky's thoughts were interrupted when an elderly woman, looking to be in her seventies, stood in the aisle by the vacant seat next to him. He stared at her surprised that someone had actually spoke to him. Most people avoided him which made it easier for him to travel.
"There is no need to stare, handsome. I know I'm a good looking gal." she winked and Bucky couldn't help, but crack a smile. She didn't seem to be harmful and it wasn't like Hydra had elderly agents trying to capture him.
"No ma'am." He was quiet, but tried giving her a warm smile.
She sat down in the vacant seat and leaned close to him. He tensed at the sudden closeness and she placed her hand on his arm with an assuring squeeze. "You look like a nervous wreck. Not much of a traveler?" she asked.
Bucky just kept staring as he was at a loss for words. He wasn't sure how to react to this woman, but she reminded him of someone. Someone he was close to. He couldn't help, but stare at her green eyes. "Yeah."
"Don't fret. Trains are one of the safest ways to travel. I've been using trains for years. What is your name, handsome?" she smiled.
"James, ma'am." Bucky surprised himself at using his real name, but he knew it wouldn't matter. He would disappear before she would utter his name to anyone else. His name still felt odd to him since he was never really given a name while under Hydra.
