In every fairy tale, you have a poor damsel in distress saved by a dashing Prince Charming, who despite all odds, rescues his fair maiden and falls madly in love with her.
Except, what the fairy tales don't tell you is that the damsel in distress could have well lived happily ever after without the Prince.
Cinderella - Her fairy godmother could have just as well used the magic to provide her an escape from her stepmother and stepsisters, to transform her into a wealthy and widowed duchess. All that magic ... wasted on a ball.
Ariel - she could have lived happily ever after in the sea without getting her heart repeatedly broken. She was a Princess after all.
Snow white - she could have been content living and working the mines with the seven dwarfs. If her head wasn't so up in the clouds, she could have realized what was happening and karate chopped the Evil Queen away.
Above all else, fairy tales lie about the Prince.
Snow white? Her Prince Charming raped her and got her pregnant in the original version. The Disney version is equally as sad. What can you say about a man who falls madly in love with someone without her even ushering a word or knowing anything about her? How shallow can you get? He even kisses her without her consent, mind you. For all he knew, she could have been dead.
Cinderella? Her Prince Charming literally danced with her, fell in love with her, and then did absolutely nothing but tell others to search for her using a shoe. How do you not even know the name or even basic appearance of your new love?
I was once naïve enough to fall madly in love with a man who I thought was my Prince Charming. He was handsome, smart, successful, kind, and everything that I wanted.
But fairy tales just don't exist in real life and neither do Prince Charming's.
He wasn't Prince Charming but an ogre who had no place in his heart for anyone but himself.

Everything started off like fairy tales should.
I was fresh out of college, applying for job after job, hoping that just one recruiter would look over my resume long enough to even consider me as a possible candidate.
By a stroke of luck, I was invited for an interview at Davenport Group, one of the largest biotechnology firms in the world, for a sales position. I didn't know why I was invited, since I was as underqualified as could be but I still gave it my best shot.
Then, another stroke of luck! Somehow, I managed to get hired. It didn't take very long for me to find out just how generous the benefits and salary at Davenport Group were. I even got some shares in the firm, which I assumed was normal for all employees.
It was around that time I met Sebastian Halifax for the first time.
I had been on my way to one of my clients when I had a flat tire. The client was usually a large purchaser and the last thing I wanted was to be late.
In walked Sebastian, or rather sped by in his Aston Martin One-77.
Within what had seemed like seconds, he had changed my tire, calmed down my nerves, and gotten my number. I was immediately smitten. Who wouldn't be?
He was Sebastian Halifax, the youngest member on the Board of Directors at Davenport Group and a CEO in his own right. He was rich, successful, and renowned for his brooding, good looks.
