My name is Everest. Everest Young. I'm your average high school student. I party on weekdays and sleep on weekends. That's all I ever do with my best friend Carson McRoe. And since I'm 17, I drive us everywhere. She failed all three of her driving tests but she doesn't understand why. "They need some young blood in that old place. All they have is grumpy old men that don't have anything to do with their lives." she would proclaim. She's funny sometimes. But to be honest, she can't drive at all. So until she learns, I'll be the one driving us everywhere.
When I was about 7, my mother died while giving birth to my little brother Carter. The only thing that I remember from her is her long hair and hazel eyes that would sing me to sleep. Carson on the other hand, doesn't have a father. He abandoned her mom the second he found out that she was pregnant. Since then, he's never been in her life, and she says she doesn't want him to be but deep down I know she does. Whenever I tell her a story about my parents in the past, she ends the conversation with "I wish I had stories to tell." So in a way, Carson's mom is like my mom and my dad is like her dad.

Fast Forwarding to the present...
"Everest, you just have to man up. Be brave and walk up to him. Tell him how you feel." Carson said. I laughed and shook my head. I could feel my cheeks begin to warm up. "Coming from a girl who took three weeks trying to figure out how to ask Alex out." I replied laughing. She glared at me but then nodded since she knew I was right. She focused her attention behind me, "Incoming!" she said reaching for my hair. "What?" I turned and realized who she was talking about. It was Evan. I could feel my face turning red and I zoned out. Oh God, what do I do?? Look natural? How!? I look like a damn cherry! "Earth to Everest!" I could hear Carson say in the background. She snapped her fingers in my face and I was back. She continued to fix my hair and looked me dead straight in the eyes. "Cool down." I just looked away.
"Hey." I turned back and saw Evan standing behind me. I didn't say anything but looked at Carson. Her eyes told me that it was okay. I just nodded. I looked at Evan, who was confused as ever, and studied him. Timberlands, khaki joggers, maroon NYU shirt, and a black beenie, he had some facial hair too but it looked good on him. I didn't smile or anything I just stared into his crystal blue eyes. I felt someone bump into me, my gaze was interrupted. I turned to see Carson and Alex walking behind me. She gave me a look that told me to stop acting weird and start talking.
"Umm..?" Evan said. I turned back around. I put my hands in my back pockets. "Oh, sorry about that." I said slowly. "Is it my turn now?" he replied laughing. I just looked at him confused. "As in check you out?" he said reassuring me. I just smiled. "Go ahead." I said as I lifted my hands out of my pockets and put them on my hips.
I wasn't really dressed up. I'm wearing a red plaid flannel, skinny jeans, black vans, and some faded out curls from earlier today. He looked back up and smiled. "You might actually look better than me." He said sarcastically. I laughed. He grabbed my hand and said "Walk with me?" I smiled. "Sure."
We walked outside and onto the deck. "You thirsty?" he asked. I nodded my head and he headed for a keg. He grabbed two cups and filled them with beer. I was waiting for him to return when I heard one of my favorite songs come on. Everyone rushed onto the dance floor and I could feel someone grab my shoulder. I turned to see Carson staring at me with wide eyes and a toothy smile. She didn't have to say anything. This was the song that we dance to all the time in my car. "Come on, Come on turn the radio on. It's Friday night and I won't be long." she said singing. It was a song by Sia. Before you knew it, we were dancing. Moving our hips to the beat of the song and singing along to it. When the beat slowed down, I walked over to Evan who was staring at us, probably the whole time. He didn't say anything but I could tell that he was pretty shocked by the look on his face.
