Chapter 5: I Take "Dog Person" To A Whole New Level

"Memory?"

What did that mean? When he attempted to touch me, I instinctively snapped at him and sunk my teeth into his hand. The male whom I'd bitten let out a grunt as bone crunched in my jaws. However, he fell silent and locked eyes with me.

The hair along my spine rose and I growled at him. His blood dripped down my white fur, the taste of it sweet in my mouth. His eyes were piercing into my very soul. I shuddered at the intensity of his glare.

Then, in perfect wolf tongue, he snapped,

<Is this really what you want?>

My flattened ears pricked. I said nothing, but I heard one of the other two humans say something.

I lost interest in the young man I was attacking and let go of his hand. I immediately lunged for the smaller of the two, teeth bared. The pair froze. Death was imminent.

A massive force slammed into my side and pinned me to the grass. I snarled and began tearing at the limbs trying to restrain me. The man shouted something at the smaller one and he stiffened, eyes on mine.

<STOP>

The man shouted repeatedly into my ears, dodging my teeth.

I wriggled free of him as he shouted to the pair of people standing in front of me. The larger female attempted to pull the smaller male out of the way, but I locked my fangs onto his forearm and began dragging him across the grass. He struggled against me, knees bent, one hand gripping the top of my muzzle, but I threw him across the grass.

He rose to his knees. I lunged towards him. In the last second, he ducked under my teeth and rolled aside. He murmured a single word and my bloodlust waned. I waited for him to say it again. I wanted to know what the word was. He said it again, and I felt my wolf mind momentarily fade into a human mind.

"You need to chill, ok? You're just freaking out because you look different. Didn't you say you could handle looking different?"

He asked.

Those were my words. Human words. Just that knowledge led to me slipping out of the wolf form into that very shape.

My human mind returned and, unfortunately, the knowledge of what I'd just done.

I was kneeling on the grass, panting, blood all over my face, neck, and clothes. I blinked until the colourblindness of a wolf left me, then glanced over at Shark, Distance and Triumph in horror.

"I...I..."

I stammered.

I sat back on my knees, bringing my hands up into view. Blood stained my hands and I felt my head pulsating. Pain shocked through me and intrusive thoughts hissed,

"I'll protect you from these thoughts if you give me control."

It was the voice of the masked boy from my dream.

I began hyperventilating and shaking. I was definitely the opposite of Distance, who loved violence...and I'd hurt him and my brother.

If there was anything I hated in this world, it was people who oppressed others and inflicting pain on people I cared about.

"What's wrong with me?"

I asked nobody in particular.

Someone started walking up to me and when I felt a hand on my shoulder, I glanced up to see Distance kneeling before me. For once, his gaze was sympathetic and a small smile played at his lips.

"Well, we're fine. You're back to a human form, and you successfully became a wolf even with a rejection response. The hardest step is over, man. How about we go get ice cream later, you know, to celebrate you regaining an ability?
