Chapter 09 (Part Two)

"Why?"

"Your friend must be pretty special, if Evan's held onto him for this long," Ace explained. "I'd dare say he's formed an attachment to him. Has he taken him with him anywhere yet?"

Nathan shrugged. He seemed to be doing that a lot yesterday. "I have no idea. I haven't talked to Justin in a while, so I guess I'll have to call him sometime soon and ask how everything's going," he mumbled.

Speaking of mates, though...Nathan wanted to ask if there was anything he could do about Jecklynn. He was also curious as to his odd, well, not so odd, he knew exactly why he hated her, dislike toward her and Helen. Helen had never even done anything to him. He wasn't sure if that was just Nathan himself, or if it was a vampire thing. After all, Ace had said that Mortals had really good first impressions.

"Hm. Evan likes to travel. And doesn't like to do it alone. I'd ask and see. If he's asked your friend to go with him, then maybe he's considering a potential mate."

Nathan nodded, debating on asking Ace about Jecklynn before he gave up and sighed, rolling his eyes at himself. "I have another question. Off topic from Evan."

Ace glanced at Nathan curiously. "Yes?"

Nathan hesitated to work the question through in his head first. "Okay...hypothetically speaking here. Let's say you met your mate, and you're all happy and shit with them, but you're only bonded, you're not mated, and then you have to go off to college while they stay home. But there's someone at home who likes your mate, even though they know that you and your mate are together. But they won't back off. And when you first met this person, a while ago, you just...instantly hated them, and you couldn't figure out why. Like...is that just a...personal thing, or is that some kind of vampire thing, or...what?"

Nathan didn't mean for that to come out so drawn out, but he was genuinely curious. And since Ace taught this class, surely he'd be able to tell him if it was a vampire thing. If it was a personal thing, well...Nathan would just have to figure it out on his own, he supposed.

"Hypothetically speaking, it could be a lot of things. I need more to work with than that."

Nathan thought for a second. "Well, what more would you need to know?"

"Well, what might this person look like? When this hypothetical person first met them," Ace replied.

"Pale, blonde. I can't..." Nathan paused, catching himself before he said 'I can't remember'. He wanted to try and keep this as hypothetical as possible. After all, he didn't want everyone to know all the issues with his relationship, he thought, scrunching up his nose. "The hypothetical person wouldn't really pay attention to their eye color."

"Blue?" Ace suggested. "Slight build?"

"Yes and yes."

"And is this person female?"

"Yes."
