Chapter 09 (Part Two)

Everyone shook their heads.

"Really? No questions at all? Well, if that's it, then class dismissed," Ace said, clapping his hands once. Nathan quickly got up, going over to grab his bag before making his way back to Ace, putting his hands in his pockets.

"So, I'm supposed to ask you a non class-related question."

Ace regarded him curiously. "Do tell."

"What happened on Christmas three years ago?"

Ace looked a little surprised before he rolled his eyes, smiling. "How do you know Evan? Because I highly doubt you know Kai."

"We went to high school together. But mostly he's a friend of my boyfriend's." Nathan replied with a small smile.

"Of course he is," Ace commented dryly. "Runt doesn't know how to keep his mouth closed. Ah, well, if you're that curious, I'll tell you. Where you headed now?"

"Just back to my dorm."

"Great! I'll walk back with you and we can talk on the way." Ace replied.

"Alright." Nathan said with a quiet chuckle.

"What dorm are you in?" Ace asked, heading west, in the general direction of campus.

"Swanson Hall."

"Ah, then you're the first dorm we'll get to. Better talk fast then," Ace said. "Well, three Christmases ago, my family got together, since my mother was a Bowman before she got married, naturally we grouped up with the Bowmans. And we all went to South America to tour through the countries. This particular event that I'm going to tell you about happened in the Brazilian jungles."

Nathan nodded, to show he was listening as Ace continued. "My family split up into tour groups, and I got put in a group with Evan and Kai. Mind you, they're family, and I love them to death, especially Evan, but you can only do so many rational things with people that you know really well around you." Nathan smiled at that.

"So, I get this brilliant idea to take a side trail from the main one, and I drag Evan and Kai along with me. Evan wasn't too keen on leaving the main path, and Kai was more aloof about it," Ace went on, smiling himself. "So we head off into the jungle. Now, Kai's a Changed vampire, so there was no way we could get lost. I wasn't worried about that, and that isn't what happened."

Nathan nodded again.

"Besides, a Changed vampire won't endanger their kid, so Evan would have been fine. And we kept going, ducking under these mossy green vines, and wading through underbrush until I see this snake up ahead, just moseying along on the game trail."

Nathan snorted and smiled wider, quietly repeating the word 'moseying' to himself. What the hell kind of word was that? Who even thought it up? He only shook his head though, not commenting further.
