Varian sent Evan a confused expression, trying to see what Evan saw as Nathan frowned before turning as well. What he saw made him stop, and he could feel his expression morph into complete neutrality, not giving away any of the sudden emotion he felt inside.

Walking up the drive was none other than Jecklynn. Because that's just how Nathan's life goes, apparently. She had on khaki shorts and a light blue tank top. Nathan barely managed to keep his mouth shut as the irritation from earlier flared again, looking away from her.

“I never lied, I just chose to withhold information from you,” Jecklynn said in response to Evan's accusation. Nathan stayed quiet, biting on his tongue as a distraction. He was curious what Evan meant though. She lied about what? Or, sorry, “withheld information” about what?

Which is still not telling the truth,” Evan said to Jecklynn, getting up from the ground, Varian not far behind him as he did the same.

Does Helen need anything?” Varian asked her. To Nathan, he didn't look too happy that she was there. Maybe even slightly irritated. He didn't question it though. Varian could be as irritated as he wanted.

Jecklynn looked toward the barn. “I came on my own accord. For Cane.”

Thank God, Nathan thought. The faster she got the horse, the faster she could leave.

I'll get him,” Varian told her, heading off into the barn. Jecklynn watched him go intently, her eyes following his steps. Once he was gone, Evan shifted his weight and put a hand on his hip, arching an eyebrow at Jecklynn before glancing at Nathan and pausing.

Uh...suddenly I'm feeling like I'm caught in something I don't belong in,” he said quietly.

Nathan ignored Evan for the time being, addressing Jecklynn instead. “I would appreciate it if you wouldn't stare at my boyfriend the next time he walks away,” he said calmly.

I wasn't staring,” she retorted. Evan narrowed his eyes at her.

How about when he comes back with that horse of yours you just go back home Jecklynn? Nobody wants an issue.”

No, Nathan didn't want an issue, but if Jecklynn did, he would certainly oblige. “Yeah, I'd have to agree with Evan,” he replied in a clipped tone.

We wouldn't have an issue if he would just be consistent with Varian,” Jecklynn told Evan, who raised his eyebrows, then set his jaw and moved closer to Nathan.
