The sweltering heat was something to behold to any other non-Augustan that is, but to the various other teenage residents, today's temperature meant pool day. Kenneth Gilbert, the newly seventeen year old took advantage of this wonderful occasion to have a End of the School Year Pool Party. People thought he was just being nice, but he had another agenda. Girls. In. Bathing Suits. Plain and simple.

Kenneth wasn't a creepy guy, matter of fact, he was fairly skinny- lightly muscular. Dark-skinned and 5"9, he had average body type, but was nothing to overlook. His young attractive features made him very easy to talk with.

It was about 1 pm, nobody had arrived yet, and Kenneth had begun nervously pacing in the backyard. Why hasn't anyone showed up, he thought. He had all the things a teenager would want; a pool, hot tub, and a trampoline. The rough patio concrete rubbed up against his feet as he walked around the perimeter of the pool. The loud screech of the sliding glass door opening excited Kenneth to the possibility of people finally showing up.

After he sprinted across the pool patio, disappointment over took his face when the herd of marching band kids poured through the small tight entrance. Granted, Kenneth was part of the tenor saxophone section. That didn't mean he wanted to see them, especially in his pool.

He must have had the ugliest face on because Faith, a clarinet player, walked up to him giggling with the widest grin.

"Not who you expected to show up, huh?"She teased. Kenneth rolled his eyes and embraced her in his arms.

"I mean it's a little less cringe worthy with you here." He greeted still holding on to her. The two stood there awkwardly, waiting for the other to say something. "So are you going to swim?"

As she walked with him Faith looked back and smiled, "Nah I don't think so I am well aware of your true intentions, Kenneth". Her condescending attitude made him laugh, she knew him so well. The two walked closer to the herd of band nerds fooling around in the pool. Faith made him calm, happy even, in times when he was stressed and in times when he was pissed off. Kenneth felt the stares of people who knew something was going on between those two. Looking back he saw his friends Oliver and Bella, giving him the raised eyebrow.

He rolled his eyes, turning back around to speak to Faith, but she was gone. Talking to another guy, he could see them across the pool. Wow, he thought, what the hell. Kenneth wanted her attention, but he wouldn't admit that he was jealous, hell no. Him Jealous? No way. Hopping onto the diving board, he reared his head back and yelled.

"HEY!!!"

He must have been loud enough, because Kenneth swore that he saw the neighbors' head pop up over the fence. All eyes were on him, just like he wanted them to be. But was Faith watching him? No still talking to that fucking tuba player Roland. He had to do something else, but what?

"ARE YOU GUYS READY FOR SUMMER?" He yelled out.

"YEAH!!" The crowd of kids retorted.

"THEN LET'S PARTY!!!" Kenneth screamed as he ran off the edge of the diving board. Reaching the end of it he sprang off into a cannonball formation. Landing into the pool, with a huge splash, knocking over many kids. Below the surface, its actually quite peaceful, he thought. The cool water washed over him, it made him not want to rise, it made him want to stay down there forever. Like a rock he began to sink, but Kenneth was on the swim team. He shouldn't have a problem making to the top before his breath ran out, the kicking and pulling of him arms wasn't enough. It was as if the water wanted Kenneth, wanted him to stay, wanted him to drown. Bubbles began to rush past him deeper into the water, and the bottom of the pool turned black, murky. At this moment, he realized he wasn't getting out, he felt the dreadful hands of the water pull him below.
