Sky was dark grey, clouds have gathered in a dark circle above me and thunder was storming, it will start raining any moment now.
Just as that though crossed my mind I felt a drop of water on my shoulder. It was drizzling just enough to get my skin and hair wet.
Luckily my dress wasn't too damp so I could still run. And I ran. I ran as fast as my legs could carry me.
Soon enough it became hard to even walk with this dress constantly dragging me down. For a moment I deliberated to take it off, but that would only leave me in my underwear since I had no bra underneath this victorian gown.
Since taking it off wasn't an option, I bent down and grabbed as much of white fabric as I could trying to free my legs. It was slightly heavy, especially since the material was soaked but at least I could move my legs freely now.
God, what if I'm too late?
Tears started pooling in my eyes and bluring my vision. No I couldn't think of that now, I had to stay focused, I have to be on time.
Foosteps behind me grew closer and closer. It was just a matter of time before they catch up with me. I pushed myself even harder, my lungs were burning and I could feel my heart in my throat. But my senses were focused just on getting as fast as I can to the clearing.
A gasp escaped my lips as one branch scraped my shoulder and hot blood started pouring from the fresh wound. It burned only slightly , because of the adrenaline rush, but I knew that it'll hurt like a bitch when it's over.
There it is. The cliff he was talking about, just a few steps and I'll be in the clearing.
Skies grew darker and air grew colder. Unconsciously I started shaking, my lips must've been blue by now and my eyes red brimmed with tears. Something was behind me, I could feel it, but I couldn't bring myself to turn around. I was focused on the scene in front of me. The dead body on the ground, the rusty stench of blood and those beautiful green eyes now dull, staring at nowhere. My blood grew cold at the sight.
A scream echoed in the forest along with a heartbreaking sob. My heart felt like it was going to jump out of my chest, and I pushed my hand trying to stop it. I couldn't breathe, my lungs were closing painfully.
Vaguely I was aware of a pair of muscular arms around me. They held me close as my knees failed me. Letting go of the dress in my hands, I grabbed his arms and held onto him.
This wasn't fair, this wasn't how it was supposed to be.
My heart was breaking in million little pieces. How am I going to continue after this. How am I going to wake up tomorrow knowing that a person I loved the most is not here anymore?
He slowly turned me around trying to get me to look away from the horrendous scene in front of me. But my eyes were glued to the lifeless body on the wet grass. He didn't give up and turned me around to face him.
Without a word I wrapped my arms around his waist tight and leaned my forehead on his chest and sobbed into his already wet shirt.
I could feel movement around me, they were problably taking care of the body. I could sense their sadness, they too were sad especially since they could feel my pain. He only held me closer, moving his arms around my body.
I suddenly winced as someone touched my wound on my shoulder.
I could hear him taking a deep, calming breath and moving his finger lower. I looked up at him and his jaw was clenched tight, looking angrier then I've ever seen him.
Abruptly I was lifted, bridal style, in his arms. The dress was clinging to me, the cold and wet material causing shivers down my spine and chills on my body. He noticed that and with one swift move he tore the skirt, leaving my legs halfway exposed.
Now that the adrenaline stopped running through my veins I felt drained and dizzy, and so cold. I couldn't stop my body from shaking. I was clinging onto his body so tight, that we've almost become one.
I've stopped sobbing but tears never left my eyes as he turned around to take us back home.
Because of the rain, we were both dripping wet and that caused my legs to slip from his hold. Just as I prepared myself to hitt my butt on the ground I found myself still safely in his arms. I looked up at him as he said
"I got you"
