Three Kinds of Onigiri

This lunch/snack is made by Megumi in ep 6. These three onigiri are Pork meat with garlic & honey, Negishiodare, Shio kombu cheese. (Personal favouite, I love onigiri <3)

PORK MEAT WITH GARLIC AND HONEY ONIGIRI-

Serving: Around 4 pieces

Ingredients:

.3-4 rice bowl's worth of rice

.4 sheets of nori (seaweed)

.Suitable amount of salt and water

.200g of pork belly meat

.2 teaspoons of grated garlic

.50g miso

.2 tablespoons of honey

.1 tablespoon of sake

Method:

1. Put the pork belly meat in a pot and boil it for 30 mins while gradually adding water. Wait for it to cool

2. Mix the grated garlic, miso, honey and sake together in a plastic container, then pickle the pork belly from step 1 in them and leave it like that over night (If fast pickle it for 30 mins)

3. Take out the pork belly meat and cut it thinly. Wet your hands in salty water and take a bunch of rice, putting the pork belly meat right in the middle of it. Mold it into a triangle shape with your hands make sure the pork belly is not seen and covered in rice, Wrap it with a nori sheet and it's done!

Notes:

.You can make step 2 in a bowl instead of a plastic container

.It's also a good idea to cut the pork belly into cubes, you can cut it however you want just so long as it fits into the rice without showing

.Start off by taking a handful if rice in your hand quickly roll it into a ball then flatten it a bit, don't make it too thin or too thick, then add the pork belly in the middle of it and then fold the rice in and use your hands to shape it into a triangle

.You can also season the rice with a bit of favour it you really want

.Feel free to sprinkle stuff ontop of the onigiri

.VEGETARIANS: Use fake chicken, fish fillet. I recommend using fish fillet for this but if you don't eat fish then use vegetables and pickle them or there are many other soy products to replace meat but don't pickle them.

NEGIHSHIODARE ONIGIRI-

Serving: Around 4 pieces

Ingredients:

.3-4 rice bowl's worth of rice

.4 sheets of nori (seaweed)

.Suitable amount of salt and water

.2 pieces of chicken breast meat

.A quarter of a white spring onion

.A quarter of a teaspoon of salt

.A suitable amount of pepper

.1 teaspoon of sake

.Half a teaspoon each of grated ginger, chicken bouillon and sugar

.Half a teaspoon each of sesame oil, sake and white sesame seed powder

Method:

1.Finely chop the white spring onion. Take out the tendons from the chicken breast meat and stick it in various places with a fork

2.Put the chicken breast meat in a heat resistance bowl, rub the salt, pepper and sake into it, wrap it gently and heat it in a 600w microwave for 3 mins. Let it cool down and break it into small pieces with your hand.

3. Put the white spring onion, ginger, chicken bouillon, sugar, sesame oil, sake and white sesame seed powder in a heat resistance bowl and mix them. After heating the mix in a 600w microwave for 1:30 mins, add the chicken breast meat and dress it. Adjust the flavour with salt and pepper.

4. Wet your hands and grab a bunch of rice, Then put the ingredients inside the rice and mold it. Smear the sauce from step 3 on both sides of the onigiri with a brush, wrap it with a nori sheet and it's complete!

Notes:

.White spring onion you can get a normal spring onion and at the bottom of the onion it's usually white use that bit

.You can season the rice if you want

.You can also lightly marmalade the chicken so the chicken has it's own flavour

.Feel free to sprinkle things on top of the onigiri

.VEGETARIANS: You can use fake chicken that is made from soybeans, they come frozen, You can use fish fillet, if not fish you can use fried tofu, but do not cook it as much as the chicken, do not use fresh tofu for that can easily break and turn into a disaster.  Fish cakes are fine as well just miss a few steps out.

SHIO KOMBU CHEESE ONIGIRI-

Servings: Around 4 pieces

Ingredients:

.3-4 rice bowl's worth of rice

.4 sheets of nori (seaweed)

.Suitable amount of salt and water

.1 tablespoon of white sesame seed powder

.2 tablespoons of mince shio kumbu (kelp)

.1 teaspoon of sesame oil

.50g of processed cheese

Method:

1.Cut the processed cheese into small cubes and mix it with white sesame seed powder, mince shio kumbu (kelp) and sesame oil

2. Wet your hands in salty water and take a bunch of rice, put the ingredients inside and mold it. Wrap it in nori sheet and it's compete!

Notes:

.This is a vegetarian friendly dish

.You can lightly season the rice

.You can use normal oil instead of sesame oil

.Normal cheese is fine but needs to be grated

.Feel free to sprinkle things on top of the onigiri
