Levels of Deception

I sprint for what seems about another mile. It almost kills me to keep going, but I know that I have to. I reach the subway and practically fly down the staircase. I run into the room where the secret door is and I open it as I did the past day. I place my hand on the door so it won't close before Scarlet comes. She then comes in a few seconds later. When she gets in I immediately take my hand off of it and it closes. I go to the wall and I allow my body to slide down the wall and sit. I can barely believe how exhausted I am.

"That was a close one," Scarlet sighs.

"Yeah, I'm glad they didn't catch us," I agree relieved.

I start to think about the kid and I wonder if they ever found him. Well, hopefully he is paralyzed. I get up to start walking to the lab. I see the commander and and everyone else. I change my location and I then start to go to my room, but the commander stops me.

"I need to talk to you and Scarlet in my office," the commander urges.

"Ok, let me go get a her," I say.

I turn around and start walking back to where Scarlet is. She is still sitting by the door. I immediately understand, knowing she is really tired.

"The commander wants to see us," I tell her.

"Why?" she asks.

"I don't know. I think it might be about everything that is happening right now, but I don't really know," I inform her.

I offer her my hand and she takes it. I pull her up and and we start walking towards his office. We walk back through the laboratory which I'm pretty sure I have walked through about a million times in the past couple of days. We reach the hall and we start walking towards the door. I really hope that we aren't in trouble. The commander isn't very good to be around when he gets angry. I would know due to earlier experiences. We open the door, go in, and sit down.

The commander looks up from his desk to see us. He shuffles in his seat before he says, "Do you know why I've called you in today?"

"No," Scarlet and I answer in unison.

"No?" he asks.

"No," we repeat.

"Are you aware of the government's choosing the spies for future generations?" he asks us.

"Yes," I tell him. "It's when the government comes to all of the spy bases in the U.S teenage spy facilities, and occasionally other countries, once every three years.They pick the top two spies of each agency and they test them to see if they are able to join. If they pass their test then they get upgraded onto the government's team."

"It's a very high honor," I reply confidently.

"Yes," he confirms. "You two are correct."

"And...?" I ask, eager to hear more.

"And you two are the highest here," he informs. "So, you two will be taking the test this year."

"Are you serious?" Scarlet asks with shock written all over her face.

"Why would I be kidding?" he asks seriously.

"You wouldn't," I say with a feeling of joy.

"So when is the test?" Scarlet asks the commander.

"You are getting on your flight with the others tomorrow," he tells us.

"Tomorrow?" she asks, her eyes growing wide.

"Yes," he starts. "So, you have to get ready now."

"So, where and what is the test going to be?" I ask curiously.

"It's going to be in Africa," he says.

"And what are we going to do there?" I ask with a slight bit of irritation..

"I am not allowed to share that information with you right now," he says.

"Okay," Scarlet replies. "This will be fun."

The commander smiles at this and says, "That will be all. You may go."

Scarlet and I stand up and leave the office. When we get out of the office I look at her. She is smiling widely.

"This is great," she says happily.

"Hopefully it's not some quest to receive the magical bouncy ball in the pit of fun," I say sarcastically.

"Yeah," Scarlet starts. "But I'm just glad that we have a shot of getting in the government."

"Yeah, same here," I agree. "We probably won't win though," I sigh.

"Don't say that," Scarlet directs. "We are going to win I just know it."

" I don't know I mean all of these people are very good spies, it won't be easy," I try to explain.

"Whatever, I still think we are going to win," Scarlet says confidently

I decide to turn in the other direction of Scarlet and walk over to my room.
