Levels of Deception

Xenix 1

 I crawl carefully on the cold, thin metal floor. Luckily it holds Amelia and I since we are really light. We pass by many rooms and even have to climb up some ducts before we reach our destination.

 The room is bare and empty, and has a single light that blinds my eyes. There is a long table with many chairs. There is dust all over the table except for the occasional box without any dust. Paper must have been there. This must be the meeting room.

 " So, how do we get in without being caught?" Amelia asks.

 " Well, we need to think as if someone is in the room," I explain as I start unscrewing a screw off of the air vent's opening.

 I hear someone's breath. The person sounds really close, but they are in the vent. I look over at the drop off in the corner and see a strand of black hair. It's Katrina. She pushes herself out of the vent and onto the floor. She has straight midnight black hair but at the end of it looks like she dipped it in cobalt blue paint. She is slender, about 5' 2'', and is fifteen although she is turning sixteen in about a month. She is also a descendant of one of the former leaders of the biggest Chinese spy agency, or also known as the A.C.S.A (Advanced Chinese Spy Agency) which is the biggest spy corporation internationally.

 Her partner Scarlet then appears shortly after. She is slim, just barely over 5' 3'', and she is about sixteen years old. She has hair made of ringlets and curls that are golden, blond, and hot pink at the ends. She has eyes that are blue and green like seaweed in the ocean. They are both wearing black uniforms that cover all of their bodies except for the head.

 " Look who it is, Kat and Scar. Took you a while, did it?" I snicker quietly.

 " Shut up, Xen," Katrina says mockingly.

 " Well, at least we got here first," I say as I glare at Kat.

 " Yeah by , like, a second," Scarlet argues.

 " Shut up. Just because we're doing an easy mission doesn't mean we get to mess around. We need to work together, not compete." Amelia says with a hint of irritation.

 I hear something climbing up the vent so I go back to unscrewing it. When I open it I carefully pull it into the ventilation and set it quietly beside us.  A man walks in and sets his paperwork on the table and sits there quietly. I carefully poke my feet out of the vent, and I silently lower myself so that I am hanging from it. I use my legs to push off the wall, and I let go of the vent. I land softly on the tips of my feet looking over at the man to making sure he didn't hear me. I then beckon for Amelia to do the same as I did. When she is down she reaches me, and we head out of the room. We check the hallways for any signs of people, but nothing is there. We sneak around the building, having to dodge a couple of people.

 When we enter the room with the safe I see the vent on the wall move. Kat and Scarlet appear and glide down with one of their ropes. Ugh, I really hate them. They are always one step ahead of us.

 I run toward the safe, and put the safe decoder on the lock. While I'm waiting I see that the room is some sort of head office. It has a large desk with a gigantic chair behind it. Kat and Scarlet are right behind me when I open the safe, but before I can the chair creaks as it turns around. We forgot to check the chair. I quickly open the safe, grab the item, and jolt to the rope concealing my identity. I reach the top and start crawling towards a drop off leading to the outside. I kick it open and attach one of my belay's clips. I take one of the ends with the clip, and attach it to my harness that is built into our suits. I take the other end with the magnet, and I look for something for it to be compatible with it. I take it and slam the magnetic side of the belay on the side of the vent. I get out of the vent, and start lowering myself to the ground. I then yank on the rope and it retracts. I pocket it and sprint down the city of Los Angeles.
