Destination Zero

Prologue

Beep Beep Beep Beep. M​y alarm sounded as I woke with a start. I sat up and laid back down too quickly and I hit my head on the headboard of my bed. I hit my alarm clock to stop the obnoxious noise. I slowly pushed out of my bed and placed on my Wednesday uniform. I walked silently to the bathroom and brushed my teeth. I walked to the kitchen and picked up the smoothie that everyone has every morning.

"Hello, dear." My mother addressed me.

"Good morning, mother. I trust you slept well?" I asked addressing my mother in the proper manner.

"Very well, thank you dear," she replied. With that my brother and I set out to begin the walk to school. When we got there we went to class and everything was silent, as usual. The teacher passed out the hologram card we were to use today in mathematics. I typed the date: Oct. 16th 2134.

Yes, 2134.

So I guess I should briefly explain the American society of today. After a war in 2103 America gained all the land to the tip of South America all the way to the very top of North America. Australia is still Australia and Africa is the same, however Europe and Asia are in a current war to decide what they will become. America is in 125 states however we no longer have "Hawai'i" those islands are now under water. Now here is our actual society, we all wear the same things the same days, we eat the same foods, we address adults in the proper way, and creativity of any sort is illegal. We live by a certain set of laws and there is no other punishment rather than death after the age of 10. Then at the age of 17 we take a test that determines our occupations, who we are to marry, and where we will live. You always stay in the same state. Tests are taken in every school across America. There is a year of learning about your forever occupation before you officially start.

I am turning 17 in 2 weeks...
