Charlotte's POV
"Goodnight my beautiful Charlotte. Don't let the bedbugs bite." My mom says as she turns off the light and closes the door. Once I make sure she's gone I pull out my flashlight and sketchpad. I keep working on my drawing of my mom, my dad, and me. For a ten year old I'm pretty good. As I'm drawing I hear a loud crash which makes me flinch causing me to draw a lie through my dad's face. Did mom drop something?
I get out of bed with my flashlight and peek out to the hallways. It was pitch black. I close the door behind me and walk towards the kitchen and living room.
"Mom?" I call out. I hear my mom knock down some more things before running out of her room and coming to me.
"Honey. We're gonna play a little game okay?" I nod and wait for her to go on. "You find a hiding place and just stay hidden. Then I'll come find you."
"Okay!" I start to run off and crawl under the couch. I turn off my flashlight and wait for her to find me. My mom goes out the sliding door in front of the couch and a man follows behind her.
"No! Please! What about Charlotte?!" She yells as the man stabs her. Blood splattered everywhere. Then I screamed and got up from under the couch. The man looks at me and starts to walk toward me. I run to the kitchen and grab a knife.
"S-stop." The man comes into the kitchen and gets closer to me. I look at his face and realize it's my dad.
"D-daddy? W-why?" I couldn't even cry. My mom just died but I couldn't shed a single tear.
"I'm so sorry Charlotte." He drops the knife and walks away. I stand there knife in hand for ten minutes before the police got here.
"Are you okay? Are you hurt anywhere?" The police officer asks. I opened my mouth to speak but no words came out. I stood there looking like a gaping fish. "Did you see who did this?" I just nod and point towards the backyard where my dad had walked off too. The officer took the knife out of my hands and gave me a sympathetic look. "Williams! Get this little girl outta here and try to get in contact with some family." Williams came and picked me up, then he put me in a police car.
"It's gonna be okay. You're going to be okay."
