Faris and Cameron were discussing something on Cameron's bed

"Your turn," I said.

Cameron groaned. "I was just getting to the best part."

Faris rolled his eyes. "I'll see you guys tomorrow."

"We're still going to the movies?" Cameron asked.

"It's Friday?" I asked.

"Yup."

"Can Fin come along?"

They glanced at one another.

"Of course," Faris said.

I felt relief wash over me. "Cool."

"I should go before Olly realizes that I left my towel behind," Faris said.

"I don't even want to know," I mumbled.

--

Two hours later, I found myself at the stairwell.

"You look...What happened?" Fin asked, standing up as soon as he took a closer look at me.

I bit my lip. "Can we just go straight to your room?"

"Yea, sure. C'mon."

I followed him to his room, walking silently down the halls.

My chest still felt numb.

When we walked in and he shut the door, I realized that he'd already made the other bed for me.

"Do you want to talk about it?" he asked.

"No...I don't even know what it is to talk about it."

He stood silently beside me. "What can I do to help?"

My stomach tightened. "I don't know. You just do it so naturally. Just being there, you know?"

He smiled and I was only truly aware of my heart for the first time that night. Tight, heavy, and warm.

I let out a long breath. "See what I mean? I just felt it now."

"Because I smiled?"

I nodded.

He smiled again and my breath lodged in my throat. "Fin."

He stepped forward and placed a hand on my chest, where my heart felt like it was normal again.

"Your heart's beating like crazy," he breathed, his expression a hint of confusion.

I swallowed with uncertainty. "It's been a while."

He chuckled, eyes twinkling, lips spread wide. "Go to bed, Kaiden."

I nodded mutely.

I walked to the extra bed and pulled up the covers.

Fin did the same in his bed after switching the lights off.

"Do you still want to go out with us tomorrow?" I asked.

"It's tomorrow?"

"Yeah."

I could tell he was thinking about it. "Okay."

"Really?"

He breathed out a laugh. "Yes, really."

"Fin, what do you do when you can't sleep?"

"I think."

I shifted around in the bed until I felt comfortable. The sheets and the pillows smelt a lot like Fin, a mixture of something sweet and a hint of expensive men's cologne. I inhaled and pulled the cover over my lips.
