One moment Alice was there in front of James and the next she was shaking off his touch and bolting into the house. Her purse was long forgotten and her heels were kicked off so fast she nearly twisted an ankle.

She ran through the house blindly. The wolf, the second soul inside her practically dragged her around corners and hallways. The next thing she knew, Alice was throwing herself at dark wooden doors. They looked old and sturdy, reinforced with three steal bars.

She yanked blindly at the handle but the door didn't move. She became frantic. Her heart was pounding her mind couldn't keep up. Every particle of her being was begging to be on the other side of the door.

When the door proved unable to be opened she finally looked down to find a thick lock connecting, what she now recognized as, a silver frame and the wood. Suddenly there were hands on her. Relief flooded her as she turned hopefully to see someone who could open the door. She was wrong. They were not pushing her aside. Alice was being restrained.

Her brow furrowed and something powerful and dangerous burst into flame within her. One man was on the ground in a moment, but another pair of arms reached for her to take his place. She thrashed and kicked. She yanked and bit. She got loose for a moment and began clawing at the door only to be held back by even more force. Her wolf was going insane. Not only was there an instinct to find and protect what was on the other side of that door but also to defend herself. Panic began to seep in. Through all the shouting to restrain her the wails of sympathy and shouts of protest and support there was only one noise Alice could hear: a heart beat. It wasn't hers but their pulses beat in time.

"MATE! I hear them! Mate! My mate is down there! Let me go to my mate!" Her wolf was restless, excited, and anxious. The beast within her wanted to be let out. If Alice wasn't so strong and well trained she would have let the wolf within tear apart the men restraining her.

"Miss. Dalivié! You can't. I'm sorry. Alphas orders. No one can go down there without the Alphas permission. No exceptions."

She felt tears prick her eyes. "Why? How can you keep my mate from me? What's down there?" Alice's wolf had stopped her panic and she felt her anger rising, she was preparing to take people down. Alice kept her at bay.

"Miss, down there's the basement and holding cells. You can't go, it's for your own protection. I'm so sorry, but you just can't. Alphas orders."

Hot angry tears were flowing freely. The pull was ripping her heart from her chest as it tried to reach her mate. Shocks like lightning coursed through her. "Let me speak to the Alpha! Please! Let me ask him! I'll beg!" Alice could barely speak as the rush of the pull screamed at her to find them. It felt as if her wolfs claws were being dragged down her chest from within.

"It hurts!" She lost her last shred of dignity and called out to him in desperation, "Please! Don't you understand?" As the last word left her lips, through sobs and tears, she felt exhaustion take over. Pain was everywhere and her body, most importantly her heart, could take no more. Alice sunk to the ground as her body went limp in the hands of the guards. She heard a ringing in her ears, drowning out everything, like listening to music underwater.

Just as black seeped in from the edges of her vision she herd it. Through all that chaos it rang clear like a bell. A powerful growl erupted from the depths of the mansion, but it was cut off by the most heart wrenching sound she, and most of those present, had ever heard. If it were possible it hurt her even more to hear. A howl who's sad lament pierced through everything around her and settled in her bones. Then, everything went black.
