"Don't be afraid", said Darrian, a boy who's mocking his little sister.

He's 16, tall, with light ash blonde hair, and crystal blue eyes. He loved to pick on his sister, but other times he was nice.

"Shut up, Darian! This isn't funny!", said Lilly, his little sister.

She's short, 14 years old, with light ash blonde hair, and crystal green eyes. Most people saw their similarities, but they had different personalities.

"Why did you even wanna come with me, Lilly?", Darian asked.

"Because I didn't want you getting hurt."

He might get on my nerves, but I still love my brother, Lilly thought to herself.

"Oh look. My little sister cares", he said mockingly.

"Shut up and help me get over this river", Lilly said.

Darian held his hand out to help Lilly. She grabbed his hand just before she fell in the river.

"You okay?", Darian asked.

"Yeah. I'm okay", Lilly replied.

He pulled her up and they continued walking.

They walked along the river, a couple of miles away from their house. It was a warm day for California. The sun shining bright through the trees, leaves changing their colors to red, orange, and yellow. Lilly watched the leafs fall from their branches, how the sun shown through the trees.

As Lilly and Darian walked along the river, Lilly couldn't help but feel like she was being watched. She looked behind her, but she didn't see anything.

"C'mon, slowpoke!", Darian shouted.

Lilly shook her head and ran to catch up. As she ran to catch up with her brother, she tripped over a rock and landed on the ground.

"Lilly!", Darian shouted. He ran to his sister.

When he reached her, he heard a low growling sound. He helped Lilly stand up, then he froze.

They looked around, hoping to find out where that noise was coming from. Lilly looked in front of her. She squeezed her brother's arm.

"Darian..", Lilly whispered.

"What?", he whispered back.

"Slowly look in front of us. Don't scream", she whispered.

He looked in front of him through the bushes, and in front of him was an animal.

An animal with short arms, a long snout, long legs with a claw longer than the claws on its feet, a blue pattern along its side, sharp teeth, a long tail, and blue eyes.

Darian went pale as he realized what he was staring at. He knew about these animals. He thought they were extinct.

"Lilly.. Climb the tree standing behind us."

"No. I'm not leaving you."

"Do you trust me?"

Lilly looked at her brother. A tear rolled down her face as she realized what would happen after she climbed the tree.

"Yes. I trust you."

"On three, I want you to climb the tree".

"I'm not rea-"

"Three!"

He pushed her up the tree as she climbed. She screamed as the bark scratched her arms and legs.

"Keep go- Ahhhhh!!"

Lilly reached a stopping point in the tree. She looked down as the animal latched onto her brother.

She reached her hand down to grab his hand. Before she could get a grip on his hand and pull him up, the strange animal pulled Darian to the ground, latched its mouth over his head, and snapped his neck.

The sound echoed in Lilly's ears as the animal continued tearing chunks out of her brother. She silently cried as she helplessly watched her brother die in vain. The animal seemed to have forgotten her presence.

Once the animal was finished, it looked towards the sky and made a noise with its mouth.

It tilted its head to the side, as if it heard something Lilly couldn't.

It took off running as fast as a cheetah, deeper into the woods. Lilly stayed in the tree till she was sure the animal wouldn't come back.

She took out her phone to look at the pictures she took of the animal. Darian knew what the strange animal was.

Lilly climbed down the tree to stand next to her brothers body. As she dialed 911, she couldn't help but wonder why he would put himself in harms way for her; she continued to wipe away the tears as the ambulance came rushing to the scene.
