My breath made the air swirl as I stared into the forest. Had it been a trick of the light? I was sure I'd seen someone in the trees, but no human could move away so fast. I must be daydreaming.
I wander back towards the door. This town is so... bleak. Nothing happens here! Everyone just stays the same, does the same things. It's perfect for my quiet sister, Tally. if being outside is my thing, than hers is definitely blending in. When we were in San Fransisco, she went out partying with all the preppy girls. When we were in quiet Ohio, she spent her time reading and studying. And here, in this boring town, Erlo, she chats with the same people, eats the same things, and is just generally as boring as everyone else.
You may have guessed we move around alot, our mother is an artist, so we move all across America to go to her shows and galleries. Being 16, I think I should be alowed to stay in one place. I like change, but changing every month or two is seriously pushing it for me. And staying in places like Erlo make it even worse. Our father dumped us a long time ago, a few years after Tally was born. Guess he couldn't handle change like we could.
I slip off my shoes and pad over to the living room. It's spacious, if a little old. There's a large window box facing the front of the house. I grab a magazine from the coffee table and go over to sit down. As I slip into my seat, I see it again- a blur in the trees, then a silhouette. I blink, and it's gone- what was it?
Probably my stupid brain again, I need to relax!
