I, Raine Sage, can't remember the last time I've ever been so scared. Yes, running for your life is terrifying enough on its own, but with them by my side, it never seemed all that scary.
But that's the problem; they aren't here anymore.
"Mother and Father will come back," I said, uncertain, cradling the small bundle in my arms. "I'm sure of it." I wasn't, not really. With only the clothes on my back and my little brother, how could I be? So I waited.
And waited.
And waited.
And waited.
But night soon fell, and so did the last of my hopes.
I tried not to feel the tears threatening to drip down my face. No, I have to be strong, I have to overcome this weakness of mine and be strong. For him, at least.
