She sighed, looking again at her clock. 4:18 A.M. She'd been tossing and turning for the last three hours. Finally, she gave up, tossing the covers off her. Walking into the kitchen and looking in the fridge, through the cupboards, looking for any kind of comfort food. 'Screw it,' she said. Walking into her office, she began looking over the case, again.

7:30 A.M, she was showered, dressed, and with coffee in hand, she was ready to go. Walking towards the elevator, and noticing movers carrying boxes down the hall, she though 'Great, a new neighbour,' and continued on her way. She pushed the down arrow button and waited, watching as the numbers counted up. First floor, second floor, third floor, fourth floor and finally, fifth floor. The doors opened and she stepped inside. 'Hang on! Hold the door!' she heard from down the hall. Holding the door, she watching as a handsome man stepped inside the elevator. 'Thanks,' he said. She smiled a 'you're welcome' kind of smile. Finally, the doors opened and she stepped out of the elevator, not acknowlegding the stranger that rode the elevator with her. She walked through the doors of her apartment building and walked towards her car parked on the street. She opened the door, got in, and prepared herself to start the day.

'Waters, have you finished the brief? I need it by this afternoon,'

'Yes, I just have to finish it. You'll have it on your desk by noon,'

'Good, meeting over,' She stood up, and followed everyone's lead out of the meeting room. 'Amy, here are your messages. And I've put a cup of tea on your desk already. And you asked me to fill the ink in your printer, that's done as well. Will there be anything else you need?'

'No thank you, Laura. Just make sure no one distracts me for the next two hours,'

'Sure thing, Amy,'

Amy, was a lawyer, well, that's what her degree said. She had graduated with honors from NYU with a degree in law. She worked hard for what she had. You would never have guessed though, Daddy paying his way for his little girl. She hadn't done it for him, or anyone else. She'd done it for her. Daddy only paid her way to get rid of her. He was never around, and she resented him for it. Amy believed in karma though. Amy walked into her office and started on the days work ahead of her.

Noon came quickly, and she had realized the hadn't eaten anything but a simple bagel. 'I'll drop this at Rob's desk, then go grab some food,' she said to herself. Printing the final paper of the case she'd been working on, she stood up, placed everything into a manilla envelope and walked out of her office towards Rob's. Knocking on the door, she heard 'Come in,' from behind it. Opening the door, her boss was sitting behind his huge desk looking over some papers. He was attractive, in his mid thirties. Light brown hair neatly groomed and intimidating hazel eyes. His face was slender as was his body. She sometimes imagined how toned and fit he was underneath the suits he wore. There was no band on that finger either. 'Here is the brief you asked for. I went through it several times, and I'm sure it's up to your standards. If you need anything else, let me know,' she said with a small smile. 'I'm just going out for lunch, I'll be back in a half hour,'

'Thanks Amy. I was thinking that you might want to sit in on the client meeting. Meet with the Atker's? You've been working night and day on this case for three weeks. Might as well meet the people,'

'Sure, Rob, sounds good. Just let me know,' she managed to contain the excitement she was building up. This could mean she was finally going to get the promotion she's been working so hard for.

'Okay, well thanks for this. Enjoy your lunch,' Rob said, and continued to look over the papers he was working on before she had interrupted him. Amy walked out of her office and back to hers. She grabbed her purse and keys, and started to walk towards the elevators. She stopped at Laura's desk to let her know she was going to lunch, then walked to the elevators, and out of the building for lunch.
