It was just a normal day at school;

To believe that, I was such a fool.

With my luck, nothing's ever right,

And this time it ended with a fight.

Grover and I sat on the bus

With Nancy making fun of us.

We were going on a field trip

(A disaster I had hoped to skip.)

It happened every single year;

It'd never stop, I was starting to fear.

At first everything seemed to be okay,

But disasters always head my way.

We began with a museum tour;

Greek statues, paintings, relics galore.

But then at lunch, my luck kicked in,

 And I sent Nancy for a swim.

She'd been teasing Grover, typically,

But then her attention turned to me.

Quickly then my anger grew,

And through the air dear Nancy flew.

I blacked out, then there she was,

Screaming loudly for Mrs. Dodds,

Sitting soaked in the fountain there,

With water dripping through her hair

"Percy shoved me!" she yelled to all.

"He shoved me and he made me fall."

 "That's not what happened!" everyone said;

I just wished that I was dead.

Everyone looked at me and stared.

Their comments caught me unprepared;

"The water rose and gripped her tight!"

I seriously doubt that could be right.

Mrs. Dodds said "Percy Jackson, come,"

While Grover stared like he'd gone dumb,

Glancing at me, and then away

At Mr. Brunner.  Why, I can't say.

I got up and walked quickly past

Cause Mrs. Dodds moved really fast.

She led me back past the displays,

The kind that put me in a daze.

When we finally stopped, she turned to me,

Towering like she'd grown by three.

"Percy, you've been a naughty boy.

Give it back or you'll be destroyed."

I stared confusedly at her;

It'd be less weird if she'd grown fur.

But then she actually started to change,

Growing wings and claws, and sprouting fangs.

I backed up quickly, terrified,

Then Mr. Brunner appeared at my side.

He threw a pen, yelling "Percy, catch!"

I grabbed it, but it didn't match.

No longer a pen, I held a sword;

Long and bronze and -- good Lord!

How did a sword come from a pen?

Would today's weirdness ever end?

Then Mrs. Dodds swooped left and dived;

only my instincts kept me alive.

I swung my sword as she drew near,

Adrenaline beating out my fear.

It  connected cleanly with her neck

And I dived aside to avoid a wreck,

colliding with a marble bust

Just as my teacher turned to dust.

I reached for my sword, but found a pen.

Did that really just happen?

I picked it up, and then I left,

Not knowing what could happen next.

Mr. Brunner and Grover were waiting outside,

And the G-man was worried, thought he'd tried to hide.

"Percy!" he blurted, "Are you all right?"

"You look like you've been in a fight!"

Before I could answer, Brunner said,

"Percy, may I please have back my pen?

Next time, make sure to bring your own.

I can't always be giving loans."

Confused, I placed it in his hand,

Wishing I could understand.

As he rolled away in his wheelchair,

 I ran my fingers through my hair.

"Grover," I asked, "Where's Mrs. Dodds?"

He stared and asked me who that was.

"Our pre-algebra teacher," I said, looking around.

but Grover looked at me with a frown.

"Percy, our teacher is Mrs. Kurr."

He pointed to a stranger, saying, "Yeah, that's her."

Something was wrong, I had no doubt,

But I still didn't know what this was about.

I had no idea what was about to begin,

Or the things I'd lose if I wanted to win.
