Blood was thicker than water. That was clear to her now. She sat till in the bathtub, knowing she couldn't move either way. Footsteps could be heard in the distance.
A car engine.
A dog.
The water around her had started turning pink. This was a bad idea.
She could hear someone shouting now. Unable to understand what they were saying, she gave up trying to eavesdrop.
She closed her eyes and let herself go. The door to the bathroom then opened and she heard someone curse loudly. They were shouting at her. Even when she was dying she couldn't find peace. After a while the voice sounded as if it was million miles away. It was barely a whisper. She did hear one thing, though. A name.
Cass.
And then nothing.
