Today, truly different from the day before,
I was sure that pain was no more.
I felt the pulse of my shattered heart
Gather together those pieces apart.

I am tormented by a hellish hunger.
Dear God! I cannot withstand much longer!
This tongue needs to savor! I am not fine!
I obsess with the bread, I obsess with the wine.

I turn, only to be rotten and numb
And all I can see is that I've gone very dumb
Because I've surrendered to no pleasures of life!
But, oh my, inside me I twist with great strife.

I am faltering, I know this for sure-do I?
I am tempted to shatter my teeth-but why?
I am sick of treacherous hunger, I tell you!
But who is this hunger? Tell me who!

Don't act strong, young one- do not.
All men shivered and for hunger they fought.
Just dream and dream and fall on the bed.
There is nothing to see- but a sea full o' dread.
