After finally getting all my stuff to my dorm I was ready to pass out. My roommate wasn't here yet so I got to pick which side I wanted. I loved the setup of the dorm. There were basically two dorms, one room on the left side and the other on the right and in the middle was a lounge space with two couches facing opposite of each other. Right in front of the door to the room I was in was a mirror on the wall and to the right of the door was the bathroom. To say I was impressed would be an understatement. After sitting on my bed for a few minutes I heard two voices getting close to the door. Two girls walked in with a whole bunch of bags once they saw me they stopped their conversation. One of the girls was brown skin with gray eyes and the other looked to be hispanic with a lot of tattoos. They were both very pretty though.

"Oh hey you must be my roommate, I'm Nevaeh." The brown skinned girl said extending her hand towards me.

"Hi, I'm Asha." I said shaking her hand.

"This is my cousin Maya." Nevaeh said motioning towards the other girl.

"I was going to introduce myself but somebody couldn't wait." Maya said shaking my hand.

"Oh girl shut up you were taking to long." Nevaeh said waving her off.

"Mhmm whatever, now that you are done using me to help you with your bags I'm going to find my boyfriend. It was nice meeting you Asha." Maya said walking out the room.

"So where you from?" Nevaeh asked getting her personal things together.

"Atlanta, what about you?"

"Oh I'm from Jersey."

"So you live by the shore?"

She laughed a little bit. "No honey I'm from Paterson."

"Oh so you know Fetty Wap?"

She laughed again, I was starting to get a little embarrassed by my questions. "No I don't, I mean I have seen him before but I don't technically know him."

"Oh okay. So you and Maya are cousins?"

"Yeah, I know you can't really tell but her mom and mine are sisters and her dad is spanish."

I nodded my head. "At least you have family here." I said fiddling with my fingers.

"Yeah I guess but she graduates next year. You don't have any family here?"

"No I don't really have any family, it's always just been my mom." I said shrugging my shoulders.

"That sucks, no offense. I just have such a large family and we've always been together. I don't know what I would've done without them." Nevaeh said looking at me.

I wish I had more family and someone else to talk to but unfortunately that wasn't the case.

I think Nevaeh noticed my facial expression and decided to change the subject. "So is this your sophomore year because I've never seen you?" She asked.

"Well it's my sophomore year but it's my first time at the school."

"What made you wait until your second year to come?"

Should I tell the truth about having a controlling mother from perfectville or should I just make up a lie? She told me everything I wanted to know about her, but then again there was nothing out of the ordinary with her and I don't want her thinking I'm crazy like my mom or anything.

"Money issues." That's all I said.

"Oh I get you girl it ain't cheap to get an education. For a minute I thought I wouldn't be able to go to college at all but my mother was not having that. Luckily those scholarships and financial aid came through."

"Well I'm glad you've been here for a year already, maybe ypu could help me out a little bit."

"Definitely, I got you."

Nevaeh was real cool and I could see us becoming good friends.

"You want to walk around the campus?" Nevaeh asked after about an hour and a half of talking in the dorm. I nodded my head and hopped off the bed. As we began to walk around the campus I took in all the buildings. Not paying attention to where I was going I bumped into someone. I looked up to see this very attractive guy.

"You good?" The guy asked holding onto me.

I nodded my head. "Sorry I wasn't paying attention."

"It's alright." He said. After that there was just an awkward between us.

"Umm yeah sorry about that again, bye." I said walking away.

"Well then." Nevaeh said.

"I know right. Do you know him?"

"Not really I just know he used to mess with this bitch named Tiffany."

"Sounds like you're not a fan of Tiffany." I say wanting to know more.

"Far from a fan. She's sneaky and she likes to get people into trouble with her childish ass."

"Well okay then."

"I'm serious Asha. She's the type that wants you to do things the way she wants, basically be her minion and when you don't go along with it she'll get you into some shit. Trust me I know firsthand, just be careful." Nevaeh said with a serious expression.

I nodded my head taking everything in. "Sounds like high school to be honest."

"Seriously, I expected so much more maturity from a lot of people."

We walked around a little longer and then we headed back to our dorm.

"I'm hungry." I said after my stomach growled for the second time.

"Me too, you ever had Cookout?"

"Oh my goodness yesss, I love it."

"You wanna go? I can call Maya and ask to use her car."

I nodded my head. Nevaeh pulled out her phone to call Maya.

"She's coming too, she saying she hungry too now." She said playfully rolling her eyes. Once we met up we piled into the car. I ordered a Lexington style barbeque sandwich and a banana pudding milkshake, Maya ordered a steak style burger and fries, with a peach cobbler milkshake, and Nevaeh got a spicy chicken sandwich  and fries with a sprite.
"You both know y'all stomachs are gonna be hurting later right?" Nevaeh said looking between Maya and I.

"Whatever, don't hate because you got a basic ass meal." Maya said.

"It's not basic." Nevaeh said sucking her teeth.

Once we ate and talked there was nothing to do but go back to the campus.

All three of us sat in the room talking.

"It's crazy how even though we just met a few hours ago we clicked so fast and I feel like we've been best friends for the longest." Nevaeh said with Maya nodding her head in agreement.
"Aww I thought that too but I thought it was because I never really had friends like that back home." I said shrugging.

"You don't seem like you wouldn't have friends, you're really laid back and you just have this cool ass vibe." Maya said.

"Well I mostly kept to myself and because of how judgmental my mom is the friends I did make she ran them off."

"Damn." They said at the same time.

"Yeah she was very controlling and put me under a lot of pressure to be perfect. So I don't really know myself yet but I'm trying to figure it out."

"Damn that's crazy, just make sure you make the best choices for you while you figure yourself out." Maya said.

"I know, I just need to be sure I know what the better choice for me is." I said sighing and sitting back. I don't know what's to come of this journey but I'm both excited and nervous for it.
