Detention

Colors, they help me define and see the world beyond what it really is. From the perspective of an artist colors aren't everything that meets the eye. They have depth. For example, you look at the horizon of a rising sun and see orange. I, on the other hand, see bright vibrant orange, with twirls and mixtures of other colors such as baby blue, pink, and specks of yellow.

Most artists draw because they want to free their creativity that's trapped deep beneath their brain. I draw to escape reality, and frankly prevent myself from my 3rd hour math class.

The class not only has downsides it has upsides, too. Considering the fact that both Junie Jolin (my best friend) and Jacob Sumter (my best friend/crush) share the same burden of listening to Mrs. Craine all 3rd hour, too.

As if to wake me from my fantasy I heard a voice whisper,"Whatcha drawing, Lilly?"

I looked over to find the speaker and it was Jacob. Instantly I felt butterflies. I know we're friends, but I allowed myself to like him more than that.

He scooted his chair nearer to me and muttered politely,"Well..."

"Oh this?" I looked down at my drawing. "It's uh...just a doodle."

"Just a doodle?" He chuckled causing me to turn a bright shade of red."Lilly it's amazing. Where'd you learn to draw like that?"

"It was before Jeniveive's accident. We um...used to draw all the time," I replied trying to swallow my emotions.

Jeniveive, she was my older sister by 3 years. She was the one who taught me to draw, and appreciate things. I remember the day we lost her like no other. Junie, Jenie, my mom, and I were all driving to the mall for a girls day out. We were at a 4-way intersection and as we started to drive again everything went dark. For a Truck rammed into us.

The next day i woke up in a hospital with only a few minor cuts. Once they gave me a quick examination they gave me the news, Jeniveive was in a major concussion. Luckily, Junie and my mom were alright, so we visited her everyday. She never improved. One day we came back to visit and she went cold...we lost her.

"Oh s-sorry...didn't mean to-," said Jacob before I interrupted him.

"No, it's alright," I said forcing a smile.

As if to make things worse Mrs. Craine yelled,"Lilleth! Care to tell us the scientific notation of the problem above?"

I looked at the problem shown on the board completely cluless, as Junie's sister, Jaci, frantically waved her hand in the air.

Mrs. Craine smirked cruelly,"Thought so... How about you Jason?"

Jacob, looking as confused as I was, bluntly stated,"It's Jacob ma'am and um no... I don't know the answer.."

Jaci nearly fell out of her chair as Mrs. Craine finally called on her,"It's a trick question, Mrs. Craine!"

 "How so dear?"

Junie then went on explaining what sounded like some foreign language to me, which was orbably just some complicated Math stuff. She then finished it off smiling proudly and obnoxiously, as Mrs. Craine confirmed her answer being right.

"And as for the two of you," Mrs. Craine   said glaring and Jacob and I. "Detention this afternoon till' four!"

Jacob shot up,"But Mrs. Craine I have football practice!"

"Would you like me to make it till' five?"

He slid back down in his chair looking defeated and muttered,"No ma'am."
