"Come on Logan, I really got to get you to school" I semi-yelled from the bottom of the staircase as I was prayed that I would soon hear delicate footsteps making their way down, but with me knowing how my son was, I knew it would be a couple more good minutes before I heard that. He was just like me, I would not step foot out of this house unless everything was perfect from head to toe, and then some. Usually a mother would be happy that their son had one of their stickler traits, until you find yourself getting complaints about the smallest little things from the time they wake up to the time they go to bed. Don't get me wrong, I love my son to death but that's a trait we need to subside for a while.
"I'm all ready now mom" I heard his soft voice come from down the stairs.
"Finally" I huffed out dramatically. "Well don't you look handsome today" I scanned over his outfit, a sly side smile taking over my face. He was dressed in a white collared button down, navy blue coloroids pants and oxfords to match. He also sported a navy blue and white striped bowtie to spiff it up. I must admit, my baby boy looked nice. Now this gave him a free pass.
"You know, I try" he smiled, messing with his bowtie while wiggling his eyebrows. I couldn't help but laugh lightly. This boy had the looks and fashion sense from me, but gained his personality straight from his father.
"You're a whole mess boy" I playfully scuffed while laughing a little. When he reached the bottom of the stairs, I lightly grabbed the back of his head running my hand over his kinky coils.
"Finally the two straggles are finished" My husband, Derek, joked as he primed my baby girl Bella for her carrier. It was Derek's day to dress her, and he did a really good job. He dressed her in a cute pink sweater with navy blue polka dots, and paired it with cute navy moccasins. Her baby curls were laid down by a soft knitted baby scarf to match her sweater.
I playfully nudged him. "Oh hush" I said before grabbing her from out of his hands. "You did good babes, she looks so cute" I gushed, kissing her squishy cheeks which gained a smile from her. I instantly smiled as her deep dimples showed. This little girl was my life, and just as I would die for Logan I would die for Bella.
"Hey mama" I held her upright as I attacked her face with more kisses which caused her to giggle occasionally. I can already tell the difference between Logan and Bella. Logan is a momma's boy, always under me and watching my every move. It's just something anyone could pick up on. Bella, she is a total daddy's girl! I don't know if it's because she's mostly with him because of my work schedule or what but I know she loves me just as much.
Derek and I both spend our mornings with the kids before we split our separate ways. I'll wake up and cook breakfast for Logan, Derek and myself all while feeding Bella her fresh milk prepped the night before or morning of. After that, depending on the day we spend time with the kids. Like today, I helped Logan get dressed while Derek dressed Bella. Tomorrow, it'll be the opposite. It just helps us each move faster, and have our time with the kids.
After just a few minutes of switching smiles and laughs with Bella, I realized that it was REALLY time to go. Everybody exchanged kisses, got into separate cars and went along their merry way with Bella and Derek in one car and Logan and I in the other. Being that Bella was only five months old, Derek usually takes her to his mothers who lives only about ten to fifteen minutes from his job. Being that Logan is four he attends kindergarten at Lincoln Elementary and that's only about ten minutes from my job.
"Mommy let's make a promise" Logan's voice caught my attention from the fixed focus from the road. Traffic was light, which I thanked God for. However, I wouldn't doubt it would be like this as we got closer to Logan's school.
