Typical day starting with my mom yelling to get up and do something. It was currently mid-summer time and I have just graduated. My usual morning routine was, since I had nothing to do this summer, was laying down 24/7 and being on social media. And that was exactly what I was doing until my mom rushed into my room.
"Ally!!" She yells while putting her hand on her hip and giving me an annoyed look.
"Whaaaaaat...."
"Get your lazy ass up and do something."
"Like what, mom?"
"I don't know, maybe go and have a decent breakfast?"
"But I just wanna sleep..." I say and cover my face with my blanket.
"But that's exactly what you've been doing for the past month and a half!"
"And I don't care."
"Do you really think I'm gonna let you just sleep over the whole summer and do noth-"
"FINE." I cut her words and push my blanket off. "I'm getting up and doing whatever you want."
"Thank you." she said and closed my door.
This is the first time I'm actually getting up. It was not that easy for me. I got used to doing nothing. And it was better if I did nothing because if I ever tried of doing something, it ended up being a total mess. I am clumsy and you could say I was a nerd. I mean I wasn't, but people called me that because I liked to read and study. Art and literature were my passion. Not to mention photography. God did I love those things and the best part was that I was good at them. The only three things I could do. I was doing good with literature during college time.
I tied my long, wavy, brown hair in a messy bun and went to the bathroom. I brushed my teeth and went back to my room to change. I took my oversized Metallica shirt that I took from my brother a long time ago before he has moved out. Under it I just had my black pajama shorts. I slipped on my glasses and went to the kitchen.
"Morning." I said mumbling and picked up my cup of coffee from the kitchen corner. Mom obviously made it for me. "What did you want me to do today?" I asked her. "Anything. I just wanted you to start moving. Start doing something. I don't want to watch you just lay down the whole time. Do something you like. Find a hobby." After a moment of silence, while I was taking a sip of coffee, I said "What hobbies, mom?" I asked in a said voice, because we both know I was not capable of doing anything.
"Well honey, I..."
"Mom, don't be ridiculous. I can't do anything." she knew I was right and she stopped talking.
"Oh!" she says after quickly swallowing food she ate. "What about your camera?" Then I just sat in silence. I totally forgot about my camera. Last time I've used it was the last week of school when me and friends were goofing around.
"Umm... I'm not sure mom. It's been a while since I've used it."
"But why not give it a try? I know you rock at taking pictures."
"Thanks mom." I say while giving her a sweet look. "I'll probably get ready after the breakfast to take some outdoor photos. I might take Oggy with me for a walk too."
"Good." She nodded. "He can use a walk too."
I know my mom always wanted the best for me and right now she would like me to get a job and start living a nice life and get a boyfriend and settle down blah, blah. But I just wanted to have a little more time for myself. I guess I didn't want to grow up so fast. I snapped out of my usual morning thoughts and got up.
I finished my breakfast and then headed to my room. I picked up my black backpack which I basically wore everywhere and my outfits weren't complete without it. I dig around my shelf which pretty much had all my essentials like make up, books, jewelry etc. I find my camera at the top shelf in a small box with my usb drive and lenses. I happily pick up my camera and set it in my backpack together with my phone and a bottle of water. I wasn't feeling like getting extra ready for a solo walk. I took my black leggings, a white tee with small cacti all over it and wore black converse. I took my hair out and it was naturally wavy and it looked okay I guess. I was too lazy to put my contacts on this time so I just rocked my nerd look and went to find Oggy.
"Bye mom. See you soon." I said while she was looking at me, proud of getting up. "Bye dear. Be home before lunch." I waved and whistled calling Oggy. He happily followed me on my way out.
I took my car which I got for my 18th birthday. Still proud to own one. Oggy was sitting on a back seat. He got used to driving around the town so he was good. The only problem was, since he was a golden retriever, his hair was fucking everywhere. I knew I had to clean all the mess later.
We eventually get to a nearby dog park. I know what you're thinking, lots of barking and lots of poop. Yes, but I enjoyed there and so did Oggy. He was running around crazy while I was looking at him and started taking some good shots. I called him and he came to me so I took a pic of him looking straight into my lenses. Then he gave me his paw, captured that too.
After a photo shooting session, Oggy ran with some other dogs. I went to sit on a bench and took the time to scroll through social media. I went to Instagram where I follow bunch of artsy and creative accounts. As I was scrolling through my feed I see the latest picture @jasdavis_ posted. I was following him because his shots were really good. The picture he posted was a pic of a dude with nerd glasses similar to mine and he had a long black hair, shaved on his left side. Totally my type though. The caption was pretty long, but it said:
"Hey everybody! So as some of you might know, I'm going to be distant for the next 2-3 months. So I was, in arrangement with Sonny, looking for a new photographer of him. So all we want is you to send a couple of your best pictures at the e-mail in my bio! Everyone has the opportunity to participate. It's a fun experience to all the starters in photography. Good luck!"
"Woah." I said. I looked into the distance for a second to think about do I want to participate or not then I said to myself "Fuck yes!". I got hyper because now that I'm actually getting back to photography, this could be a real booster. AND to get my mom off my shoulders for finally getting a job. I quickly stopped smiling and giggling so no one noticed how crazy I looked. I went to my gallery and started looking at some of my "best work". I found my favorite picture of a sunset (just to mention, I'm obsessed with sunsets and my obsession is unhealthy okay) and it was dope because of all the colors sky offered me to capture; then I found a cool shot of my hometown New York which I took from a balcony of some tall building; picture of a Coachella crowd when I went two years ago; and finally a picture of me on a grass in a forest with my wavy brown hair all around, my head looking down at flowers and in my hair was a nice flower crown, and I also wore a nice white dress, which totally made me look like a fairy. I literally went into the forest to have fun and though of that shot and set my camera on a tripod and did it.
As soon as I found those photos I sent them to the mail that Jas had in his bio. My description was:
"Here are some of my shots. Hope they are good." I wrote with the rest of the info about me.
Soon after I've turned off my wifi and noticed Oggy was standing next to me looking at me with his stupid happy face. "Come on, Og." I say and and stroke his head. I grabbed his leash and decided to walk to the car and go home. We walked and as soon as we sat in the car I got a message from mom saying "Lunch is ready." I replied "Driving home."
