-Tori's Point Of View-

:Chapter 1: The Return

Today is the last day of summer vacation, then I have to go back to school, starting senior year.

I mean, I'm not complaining, I'm very popular, but it gets annoying with all of the boys trying to hit on me and get into my pants. No, I'm not a virgin. My ex-boyfriend, Kyler, took my virginity.

I loved him so much, but he had to move to New York a year into our relationship, we dated from freshman year till sophomore year. Then he moved. I miss him, no doubt about it, but sometimes you just have to learn that life is life and there are ups and downs throughout it. You have to take the good and the bad and learn to cherish moments while they last and not dwell on things from the past. I live in the moment because yesterday is gone and tomorrow may never come.

"What are you thinking about?" My best friend, Logan, asks.

Logan is tall, with blue eyes and dirty blonde hair. Unlike me, I have very dark brown hair, almost black, but piercing blue eyes that sometimes change color, to green.

"We have school tomorrow." I reply.

He groans, "Don't remind me."

I chuckle, "Why do you hate school so much? Anyways, it's our last year of high school, in nine months we can get out of that place and never look back."

"Yeah but, all those chicks! They're always all over me!" He throws his hands up in frustation.

"You know you love it." I smirk at him.

He smirks back.

"Maybe just a lil' bit." He holds his index finger and thumb a few centimeter away from each other.

"How 'bout just a lot." I state, matter of factly.

He chuckles and sits down beside me.

"Did you hear?" He asks, suddenly.

"About?" I push.

"Kyler." He states.

My heart dropped.

"What about him?" I rush out.

"He's moving back." He smirks.

I let out a breath of relief. I thought something bad had happened to him. Then Logan's words processed in my head and my heart skipped a beat.

"He is?" I ask, casually.

"Yeah." He shrugs, "Wanna watch a movie?"

"Sure." I answer.

He goes to the drawer full of movies, after he searches around for a while, he holds up Evil Dead.

"Hell no! That movie is scary as fuck!" I exaggerate. He rolls his eyes.

"It's not that bad."

"Uhh, actually it is." I say.

"Uhh, actually it's not." He says with a hand on his hip, opening his mouth a little, to mock a girl.

I burst out laughing. Oh, how I love my best friend.

He grins and puts the movie in, as the advertisements play I make some one minute popcorn, grabbing two cokes from the fridge, I put the cokes on the coffee table and go back into the kitchen, grabbing a bag of Doritos, a pack of licorice, and some m&m's, skittles, chocolate, and the popcorn out of the mircowave, I put the popcorn in a bowl and grab everything, walking out to the living room again. I put everything on the coffee table and see that Logan already has the pillows and blankets on the couch.

We have this routine down well, I mean we have been doing it since we were 10, now I'm 17, an he's 18. I'll be 18 in 3 weeks. He just turned 18 two weeks ago.

I sit down and cover myself with a blanket, although I don't need it, it's 90 degrees out today, but we have the air on and a couple fans so it's pretty chilly in the house.

I grab a pillow and put it in my arms, so when I get scared I have something to squeeze.

The movie starts and we stay silent, eating popcorn and snacks.

In the middle of the movie, the doorbell rings.

"Go get it." Logan demands.

"Come with me." I plead.

"Why?" He asks.

"You're the one that made me watch this movie!" I point to the screen.

He sighs and pauses the movie, getting up with me as we walk to the door.

I open the door, to see a familiar face. My heart beat picks up and I feel like running away.

"Dad?" I ask.

He has a tear stained face and he looks terrible.

"Darling!" He smiles.

I take a step back.

"What are you doing here? You left us." I say, my voice shaky.

His eyebrows furrow.

"What do you mean I left you?" He asks.

"I woke up one morning and mom was crying, saying you left us." I explained.

"Honey, I didn't leave you." He says, a tear slipping down his cheek. "I went to have a surgery done."

"Surgery?" I ask.

"Yeah, your mom promised me she would tell you." He says.

"Tell me what?" I ask, annoyed.

"I was getting surgery, because I have cancer. I never left you guys. I told her, I made her promise me to tell you. I couldn't tell you, I would fall apart and back out."

"Are you okay now?" I ask, once his words sink in.

"No, I'm gonna try again." He starts, "In 5 months."

Just then, my mom pulls up in the driveway, with my little brother, he was 7 when dad left, now he's 9. I was 16 when my dad left, and I was torn apart.

"Your surgery took two years?"

"Well, the surgery it's self took 8 months, but I had to wait. I tried calling every chance I could, when I ever did get a hold of your mom, she ways said Tom was a sleep and you were busy or gone. There was always an excuse of some sort."

"What's going on?" Mom asks, smiling as she walks up. Dad turns around and her smile instantly drops, her eyes well up with tears.

"Do you want me to leave?" Logan asks, from behind me.

"No, no. Stay." I demand, he smiles slightly and I can tell he can see the hurt in my eyes.

He gives me a sympathetic look. I smile at him and he smiles back.

My phone starts ringing, I pull it out of the back of my black shorts pocket. A number pops up that I don't recognize but I answer anyways. I always do.

"Hello?" I ask.

"Tori?" A husky voice answers. The voice sounds so familiar, but deeper than usual. I know it, I just can't put my finger on who.

"Who's this?"

"Kyler." I freeze.

"Kyler?" I whisper.
