Chapter one

Vanessa's POV (Monserrat^)
I was being shaken awake.
"Get up V, it was just a dream" I heard my best friend Monse tell me.
" ughh mmmmm" I replied into the pillow we had sewed up. 
Ohh sorry I forgot to introduce ourselves. My name is Vanessa my parents disowned me at age 12 so I have lived in the streets of California  for the past 5 years. I lived alone the first 3 that is until I met Monse, I met her when I turned 15 when I would've had a quince. She was 16 and had been alone since she lost her family at the age of 8. We have lived together for 2
years and are now best friends.
"Get up we need to go" she told me
"I coming I coming" I replied
We started walking towards the crowded streets of California.
Later (sponge bob narrator voice)
It is now about 6 o clock and almost sunset.
"Monse I'm starving" I whined
" same" she replied
We started heading to a little market that was set up by a skate park. We both love to skateboard last year we found a way to get our own skateboards. Any ways I passed the orange cart and slipped a couple in my pocket. I saw Monse take some berries.
" Get back here you thieves" a man about thirty said
We ran fast
At this point in our lives we knew how to get around, but this time it was different I could feel it. We ran about two blocks reaching the skate park. We graves our boards and rode of. The man was still chasing, I noticed him pulling something out of his pocket it was a gun. He aimed at Monse who got shot on her arm
" ahh" she screamed making me jump
He then proceeded to shot until he shot my left leg. I moaned in pain. The man re loaded his gun and got closer. Before he shot again a boy with a cup of Starbucks ran out of the skatepark throwing it at the mans face. Another boy this time with bright red cheeks and brown hair tackled the man to the ground.
" are you ok" a boy asked me
" ughh HAPPY NEW YEAR " I slurred
" let's get them to the hospital" someone said that's the last thing I hears.
