You know that dreaded feeling you get when you look in the mirror and see a damn pimple? It's the worst isn't it?
Recently, I've started cleansing regularly and I've seen a great improvement in my skin. I've been following the necessary steps recommended by many beauty experts and dermatologists and I couldn't be happier.
Before I go into the steps, let's get one thing clear. DO NOT BE LAZY! Honestly, my biggest problem before was my laziness, and now, because I'm absolutely tired of being insecure and taken to doing the proper routine, I feel so much better in my skin.
Step 1: Cleansing
The most important part of facial hygiene is cleansing. Without thoroughly cleaning your face, the remaining dirt and bacteria cause acne. To prevent that from occurring it's necessary to use a face wash, however, your hands don't usually remove everything. This is where two things come in. Routine and scrubber.
A scrubber can be either a wash cloth or a fancy brush thing (which I don't use because I'm too cheap to buy one). These are great because they really get into the pores and remove all the hidden gunk.
Routine now is how often you'll be using your scrubber. For me, someone with sensitive skin, I only scrub at night. I also cleanse at night with my face wash instead of both in the morning and night reason being, the excessive scrubbing can irritate the skin and if cleansing is done at night, in the morning it won't necessarily be dirty depending on where you sleep. Cleansing for me in the morning is just a quick water rinse.
Step 2: Exfoliating
Dead skin builds up over a period of time and it's important to exfoliate to prevent acne. This too has a routine.
The face has to rejuvenate, so you can exfoliate every other day or once a week. I exfoliate every other two days.
Step 3: Toner
Now, this step is unnecessary in my opinion, but if the substitute I will give isn't something you want to try, feel free to use a toner.
If you wear makeup, in case after you took it off and there's products remaining, toner helps to take it off.
It also reduces pores and balances pH.
Now, what I use to replace toner is Apple Cider Vinegar. It really has been helpful for me as it helps with acne scars and evens the complexion of my face.
Step 4: Moisturizer
This is probably the simplest rule ever. Moisturizing is what you do to add moisture back to your face. After cleansing, exfoliating and toning, your face is often left dry, so moisturizer just adds back and softens the skin.
TIPS
*Don't forget to wash your hands properly before dealing with your face. This will prevent any dirt or bacteria from transferring to your face and you breaking out with acne.
*Using the right products are essential. Don't use items without reading the labels! We tend to ignore this, reaching for anything we think looks pretty and buying it (ofc if the price is right for our pockets). Don't do that. We all have a skin type and the products will be labelled what skin type they were created for.
*Sanitize your scrubber regularly to prevent the spread of germs.
*Keep your products away from water and keep them closed. This will help then to last longer.
Now, you've probably realized that I haven't given any examples of products that will get the job done, but don't worry. I'll be posting that ASAP. My reason for this is that I don't want to tell you guys to use something I have no understanding of and am not certain will work. Also, the type of product you use varies on your skin type, so I need to come up with an efficient quiz that will help you figure out what you'll need.
