"Thank you."
"Sure thing orange." I scrunch up my nose as I step on the pavement and start my walk to my parents. Luckily for me, the bus I hoped on unknowingly was a twelve, meaning, it was the only number bus that traveled my route to my parents home. With the bag held close to my chest, I cross the road only to jump back with a shriek when I heard the tooting to see a fire red truck zoom past me. That truck almost ran me over. Looking like a mad woman I quickly made a mad dash to the other side of the road.
I walk past a few houses before opening the huge iron gates and walk up the path way leading to my lovely house. You see, the thing with my family is that my mother and father are married. Im the youngest of five siblings; Williams, Haden, Sophia, Ronin and me. We're a loving family, or at least we try to be. No family is perfect.
I walk around the back and open the patio door and walk into the kitchen. I place the items on the island and walk into the living room to see two of my brothers, cheering on two turtles in what seems to be a race. Did I forgot to mention every person apart of the Stonners family are animal lovers? Even my brothers whom are obsessed with them. Those turtles that are racing are theirs; Torti and Bluey. How did they wind up with such names to give those turtles? I have no idea, and I don't intend on knowing myself. My brothers might be the oldest among us but sometimes they remind me of those boys from fan boy and chum chum.
"You're back! Thank goodness. I was just about to go crazy. Spending too many time with your brothers did stuffs to me." my sister in law, Marie, walks into the room taking tiny steps . She's pregnant with my second niece and i can't wait for her to pop so that i can go into full aunty mode all over again. She's also my best friend.
Sometimes i wonder how she ended up with my brother Williams, seeing that they're total opposites. My brother acts like the incompetent neanderthal he is whilst Marie has a more quite, reserved thing going on.
"Aum yeah... code black." That seemed to get her attention because her hazel eyes widened and her back straightened as she march across the tiny distance between us and grab my hand to haul me up the stairs.
"For a woman whose with child, you sure do have a lot of strength in you, and energy," She just ignored me and ascend the stairs' steps. "Slow down woman! You're hurting me!" Marie let go just as i tug my hand from her grasp and i went falling flat on my arse. I look up to her with a flat look on my face.
"Ops." She gives me a shy look as i get up and motion for her to follow me through a purple painted door with Andy Grammer and Bridgit Mendler posters paste all over it; my room, or what was left of it. As soon as i bought my new home, I cleared everything out of this room and transferred them to my new home. The room looked as if a foot haven't even stepped through it in over a year. Best believe that it was our sanctuary. We're protected by the sound proof walls that my dad installed; you could stay inside the room and hear the noise on the outside but people not in the room couldn't hear the gossip in my room, that's if any of my siblings tried to snoop that is. The amount of tears shed in this room was unbelievable. This was where memories were made, for me that is, I don't know about anybody else.
This was where i first broke my hand, trying to do a parkour, that mission was unsuccessful. This room was even where i tried to be the first human being to defy gravity; gravity not defied. I don't know but there's just something about the purple walls in this room that always seems to bring me comfort. Everything I once had in this room became apart of me.
I've had as many birthday parties in this room, excluding my sweet sixteen.
"Yes, as i was saying, i think I'm in deep shit Marie.." I told her everything, from when i was cashing the baby stuff to when i was crossing the street and almost got ran over by the truck. when i was finished, Marie's body laid on the floor sprawled out and looking up at the ceiling.
She slowly sat up and look at me "So you're saying that you met a green eyed hottie, and then you ran off? not even bothering to get a name or..?"
I threw a pointed look her way. "That's all you got from what i just told you? You didn't even cared to be the slightest worried when you heard about how a fire truck almost crushed me?" I feigned hurt as i turn away from her. "And he has green-blue eyes Marie, keep up." I added as an after thought.
"No! That's not it, i heard you, i'm just-"
"Ssh. Do you hear that?" Silence met us but I knew better. I ease myself up from the floor and open the door. The clinging of pots; the smell of something delicious lingering in the air. It's mom; she's cooking!!
"Huh? Are you serious."
At the look on Marie's face i realized that i said it aloud. "Quick!! She never gives anything away when she's cooking." I fling the door open and rush down the stairs.
"Wait for me, Im pregnant damn it! Hold up!" Her pleas fell on deaf ears as I run in the kitchen to see my mom stirring a pot of what seems to be, "Stew! mom can I have a taste please?" I bat my eyelashes up at my mother and cling onto her arm as she glance at me and brush me off with the flick of her wrist. "No."
My shoulders slumped and I turn around to see Marie sitting on a nearby stool and her head resting against the for as she point her finger at me. "Traitor..." She continues her rant and I just turn my back on her and try one more time at persuading my mother.
"Please mommy I'm begging you," I long out my tongue at her "Just a lil bit of that gooey goodness." She scrunch up her face at me and shove me away. She walk over the fridge and take out the thyme. "Fine!"
She fetches a bowl form the cupboard sand pour a spoon full of the stew and place a slice of toasted flat bread. I quickly take the bowl and the bread from her, mumbling a quick thank you, clutch it to my chest and with my head held high, exit the kitchen without giving Marie a second glance.
