Dark winds hurled round, stinging Jack's eyes and freezing him in place. He pushed against the unseen force, struggling under his own weight.
"Mark!" He yelled, desperately. "Help! Please, Mark!".
But no one came.
An earsplitting screech cut through the wind. As Jack looked around to search for its source, he tripped and flew backwards, screaming as the winds dragged him along the cracked earth. He flailed his arms about frantically, trying to stop himself. The barren wasteland offered no help, until painfully crashing into an oddly out of place stone wall. Looking up, he saw a shining face. Though blurred by tears, he knew who it was.
"Mark?" he said, only able to produce a weak croak.
All of a sudden, the winds, the dark clouds, everything faded away, leaving him and his forbidden love, under a golden sun.
"Yeah. It's me." Mark knelt down and touched Jack's cheek, wiping away a glistening tear.
They were soon locked in embrace, crying on each other's shoulders.
"Never leave me... Please..." Jack whispered.
"I promise" muttered Mark.
Jack melted in to the embrace, feeling the warmth in the other man's arms. He never wanted this to end.
And at that moment, Mark swung around and drove a knife into Jack's heart.
"Gah!" Jack screamed, clutching his heart, disoriented and terrified. It took him a few moments to realize he was still in his room, alone.
Alone... He thought. Always with that god damned nightmare... He flicked on the lamp and looked at his arms. They were as he suspected—scratched and burning red, as they always were after nights like these.
Why do I do this... Why am I so... alone?
He clutched his knees into his chest, shaking, tears flowing freely from his eyes. Jack found himself reaching for his phone, hovering over Mark's number. He almost did it, he almost called out for help, until he remembered what had happened just a few days ago.
Oh god no... What am I doing? I can't turn to 'im... He's got so much on his own, with Daniel and all...
Jack fell on his side, succumbing again to the darkness in overwhelming sobs, eventually crying himself to sleep.
The next morning Jack was startled awake by his phone ringing. He groaned as he remembered the night before. Reaching over for his phone, he shook the remaining darkness from his mind.
Fuckin' hell, who's callin' me this early in the day?
"Hello?" he asked groggily.
"Hey, Jack! It's Wade!"
Jack sat up when he heard who it was. It was bound to be something important about Mark.
"Hey, Wade, what's up? Is everything alright?" he asked, poorly concealing his concern.
"Yeah, yeah everything's fine. Uh, Jack listen... This is a huge thing to ask, I know, but... Would you be willing to maybe come to L.A. and stay with Mark for a while?"
Jack froze. Had Wade just said what he thought he did?
"Come... t-to L.A.? To be with Mark?"
"Uh, yeah. Bob and I have been with him for a couple weeks now, but we have to get back to our families soon, and... Well, Mark's not... He's not doing so well. To be honest... we think he'd do better with you here. You're... You're really his best friend."
What? Me? I... I can't be Mark's best friend. He... he's only known me for a few years, less than half the time he's known Wade and em'...
"Jack?"
He realized he hadn't said anything in well over a minute.
"Ah, oh yeah, sorry. I'd... I'd do anything for 'im Wade... He's... He's my best friend too".
"So you'll come?" asked Wade.
Jack hesitated for a moment. He remembered the ordeal from last night—and the night before. He knew how hard it would be to control the darkness inside him... But it was for Mark. And god damn him if he was going to let that stop him from being there for his best friend.
"I'll be on the next flight over".

On the plane, he busied himself thinking about Mark. He did try his hardest think about how to help him, but his mind of course, had different ideas.
He chuckled to himself and closed his eyes. All the images he had always pushed away came flooding in again, making him swoon.
And with forbidden love in his heart, he drifted off to sleep.
