The car door swung open and I stepped out onto the bustling New York City streets. My chauffeur Adler held my hand as he helped me out of the car. I sent him a smile of pure gratitude. Even if they are the help, daddy say's we must treat them nicely. Plus, I like Adler.
"Thank you, Adler. I'll be down in an hour if mother isn't in a sour mood,"
He tipped his hat in my direction and closed the door behind me. "I'll be waiting, Madam."
Madam. I'd never get used to that. I walked towards the front door of my Upper East Side apartment. The doorman held the door for me and I thanked him. He tipped his hat and wished me a good day.
Once inside the elevator, I took my phone out of my bag and scrolled through my texts. No important ones. As I was about to put my phone away again, a ding erupted from it, signaling I had a new text. I looked at who it came from and I could immediately feel the euphoria spread throughout me. Dylan.
"Hey babe i'm back in new york ;)"
"I can't wait to see you! I've missed you so much"
"I'll see you later at the governors ball"
"Of course you will"
"What color are you wearing? I wanna match"
"I'll be in burgundy"
Sometime passed and I hadn't received another text from Dylan. I couldn't dwell over that now. I had to get ready for the ball. I entered our large, upscale apartment. My mother was rushing around giving orders to everyone. She froze when she spotted me.
"Anastasia, where have you been?" She met me in the foyer and her hands remained firmly on her hips. I could sense her look of anger from a mile away. "You know how important these are to your father. Not only your father, but you! This is good for your future. Meet new contacts, Ana. You have to step it up and stop drifting off when you know we have special occasions."
There was no point in arguing with her. I knew i'd lose. "You're right, mom. I'm sorry. I went out for breakfast with Alicia and we lost track of time."
"You don't have the right to lose track of time. You know who you are. You have responsibilities," She put her hands on my shoulders.
"What if I don't want responsibilities?"
"You don't want responsibilities, but you reap the benefits that come from them. Your car, your clothes, your money all came from your father following his responsibilities," She turned from me and walked towards the large spiral marble stairs. "You're spoiled, so i'll forget you even asked that. Now come, we have to make sure you look your best."
I followed behind her, rolling my eyes behind her back. Another ding sounded and I checked my phone once again. Dylan sent a picture.
