02: The Accident

On my way to school, I saw Bella Swan getting into her old Ford truck. Everyone at school laughed, but I thoguht it was a very pretty orange. I waved, and she smiled. She waved, and I continued down the street.

Later that morning, I stood in the parking lot listening to Kings of Leon on my iPod. I tapped my foot to the beat, and tried to get some Bio homework done. Then I heard a sickening sound from the other end of the parking lot. It was the sound of a car crash.

I yanked my ear buds out and started towards the noise, only to see Bella's truck at the scene of the accident. I was sprinting now, my heart pounding. Was Bella okay?

I saw Tyler in the driver's seat of a black van. It sat adjacent to Bella's truck. Had Tyler hit her?

As I got closer, I heard Tyler. "Oh my gosh, Bella, I'm so sorry. I lost control!" She had emerged from the space between the two vehicles. And then I saw him.

Edward Cullen slid over the hood of the car and ran. He ran faster than I'd seen any human run. Who the heck was this guy?!

I ran over to Bella. "Bella, are you okay?!" I yelled. She nodded and I helped her climb over the hood as well. I was sure no one else had seen Edward, because they were worried about Bella instead of the fact that Edward was now on the other side of the parking lot. "I'll drive you to the hospital Bella." I said, my hand still on her arm. She nodded, and said,"Thanks Jessie." I looked into her eyes.

She gave me a look that I didn't understand at first. We reached my car, and I pulled out onto the highway. "You saw him didn't you." She asked, but it didn't sound like a question. I nodded.

She sighed, and conitnued. "I have no idea how he got over to me so fast. It was amazing. He stopped the car. with his hand, Jessie." I nodded. She leaned her head against the window. Then she pulled out her cell. "I better call Charlie." She mumbled more to herself than to me. I agreed. "He'll want to know you almost died at school. She chuckled, but then Charlie picked up.

Dr. Cullen checked Bella out. Everything seemed to be fine. Charlie was furious with Tyler, threatening him and his recently procured license. I chuckled to myself. My dad would be doing the same, but the difference was Charlie was a police officer. He wasn't bluffing.

I walked with Bella down the hall while Charlie discussed things with Dr. Cullen (Who, by the way, was Edward's dad. Small world.). We reached a corner, and she shushed me. She shrunk back against the wall, and motioned for me to do the same.

We heard Edward, his sister Rosalie, and Dr. Cullen arguing quietly. Then Edward saw Bella. He came over to us. "I'll leave you alone." I whispered. I started off back down the hallway, but I heard Bella question him. And I heard him deny everything. How odd.

He was definately hiding something. But I had no idea what.
