The Pursuit Of Time

Prologue

The withered flower bloomed in my hand. My eyes widened in amazement, my lips forming a smile.

"Eomma look! The dead flower bloomed again!" I said hurriedly to my mother. I was expecting her to smile but her expression was the opposite. The horror was on her face, as if she's afraid. She took the flower in my hand and threw it away.

"What is the matter eomma? Waeyo? " I asked sadly seeing the flower blown by the autumn breeze.

"Nothing dear, it might harm you. It might harm you." She answered in a worried tone but it looks like she wasn't talking to me. I didn't notice anything. I took her hands to my smaller ones and we continued walking in the garden. I was telling her stories about what happened in my school while happily skipping along the pavement. She just listened while nodding her head. Turning her head once in a while as if she's looking for something. I ran out of topic so I decided to tell her my dream to keep her entertained.

"Eomma I had a weird dream last night. I was in a forest with a white fox by my side, its fur is so smooth. We were playing then suddenly a three legged dog came and pounced on the fox. A man was behind the dog but I can't see his face." I told her. She just stood there frozen, I was worried she might have one of her panic attacks again.

Two nurses went to us to tell me visiting time was over. Before the other nurse lead me away, my mother hugged me.

"Lili my love, be careful out there, its really dangerous." She whispered in my ear. I didn't understand her but I just hugged her back feeling her warmth. The nurse took me to where my aunt's car is waiting. I turned my head to see she's still gazing at me. I waved my hand and smiled at her knowing I'll visit her tomorrow. She waved back and also smiled. As the car drove away, I never noticed it was a sad smile. I never knew those words will be last thing she'll ever say to me.
