Confetti of all shapes and colors lay scattered across the floor
Hearts, stars, and birds made of paper
A pastel room filled with light and smiling faces
Happy paper plates and drippy butter knives
Blue frosting spread messily across the scratched tables surface
Glass bottles filled with fizzy soda pop
Flimsy party hats and a record playing on repeat
Balloons tied to the chair of the birthday boy
Smiling faces filled the room
The cake cut in two
A shiny silver knife wedged in the somber table
Guests of shadows of the afterlife
Smiles etched on their cold dead faces
Confetti spilling from their mouths
A frowning birthday boy
Lonely imagination
Guests had never truly shown up
Red confetti drizzling from his mouth
Bitter sweet words left unspoken
The party filled with confetti shaped like hearts, stars, and birds, was not yet over
