An Unordinary Day

The waves lapped up against the shore as I sat in the hot sand. The waves crept up to meet my toes. I guess I should tell you a little about myself. My name is Amanda, I'm 13, I have brown hair and brown eyes, or I did, sorta I'll explain that later, and this was the day my life changed forever. It was a normal day to start out, I got up, threw on a sweatshirt and sweatpants, grabbed my flip-flops, and went for a walk on the beach. The sun had barely started to rise. That was my favorite time to walk the beach, and I kicked off my green and pink flip-flops, at the beginning of the sand, wouldn't need those. I guess you could say I wasn't like most girls, I preferred reading to scrolling on Instagram, and silent walks on the beach, no one or any technology to distract me. It was nice, it was peaceful, it was magical. Okay, it might sound a bit cliche, but I've always believed in magic. Anyways, back to the present. I stood up and pushed my hair out of my face, walking towards the dock. It wasn't anyone's dock that I knew of, it just sat there. So, I just plopped myself down on the edge, and let my feet dangle over. My first mistake. I sat there just like any other day, but I felt like I was being watched. Granted I have felt like I was being watched before, but that probably was my imagination. I shook it off as such. My second mistake. Something grabbed my ankle and yanked me off the dock and I lost my balance on the edge. My third mistake. And with a shriek, tumbled into the cool water. A blurred figure and bubbles clouded my vision. I saw a flash of green hair, as I somehow kicked my way to the surface. I hacked up the seawater in my lungs, my clothes weighing me down as I struggled to swim back to the dock. My hand reached the dock as a hand grabbed my free one in the water causing me to lose my grip. I held my breath as my head went under, quickly I turned to face the thing pulling me. My eyes widened at the blurred sight, I nearly screamed till I remembered I was underwater. A mermaid swam before me, her skin was a pale tint, her hip length hair green to match her long tail, she wore a pale silk dress, with gold chains adorning the garment. She put a finger to my lips, placing my glasses on my face, must of lost those when I fell, and draping a necklace with a pink shell for a pendant, similar to her green one around my neck. She smiled a faint smile at me, then it all went black. I woke up on the beach, my clothes completely dry, what the? Was it a dream or was I just there that long. I glanced out to the sun rise, a little after I fell, that's weird. I felt the pendant around my neck engraved with my name, as I found it strangely had. I sat up and dusted myself off as best as I could, scrambled to get my flip-flops and ran home.
