Melody's POV

9/01/15

"Bye, mom," I murmured against my mom's shoulder.

"Bye sweetheart," she replied. I heard her sniffle and laughed sadly.

"Don't cry, please," I mumbled and wiped a stray tear. She sniffled back a tear and smiled.

She nodded. "You should probably get going, you have a big day ahead of you." She patted my shoulder.

"You're not coming?" I asked dissappointedly. She shook her head.

"I have to work, my boss wouldn't let me take off." She informed me. "But here is two hundred dollars to set up your dorm. Lord knows you'll need it." I sighed. I nodded and bid her goodbye again. Finally, I turned back to the intimidating building. A huge sigh with big bold letters that read "WELCOME CLASS OF 2019" was draped over the entrance. Taking in a deep breath, I made my way in.

I felt the burning stares of upperclassmen all over me. Being a newbie sucks. I hurriedly made my way to the front desk.

"Uh, Melody Goldberg." I told the woman who watched me expectantly. "I have no clue what I am doing." I eyeballed her name tag. It read Mrs. Chesnut.

Mrs. Chesnut chuckled. "Freshman, I assume." I nodded. The woman typed on her computer a bit. "Sit down, I will get someone to show you around. In the meantime, here are some papers you need to fill out to register." I sat in the nearest chair I could find and began to fill through the overwhelming amount of paper.

After finishing up paperwork, a woman wearing what I assumed was the school shirt, walked in. Immediately, she turned to me.

"Are you the one who needed help?" She asked. I nodded. I got up with my lunch schedule and my list of classes, and followed her out of the school.

"I am Mrs. Forest," she told me. "And you are?"

"Melody Goldberg," I told her. She laughed like I had said a joke. "What?"

"You share a last name with Whoopi Goldberg," she said. I rolled my eyes.

"Unfortunately," I muttered. She patted my back and led me to the white brick building.

"Since your last name starts with G you will be in dorm building 1493. Let's go get your keys." She said. She led me across the lawn to the building diagonal from where we originally were.

After I had gotten everything sorted out, I tiredly made my way to my dorm. I lugged my suitcase full of clothes and a bag with a blanket and a pillow. I opened the door to see a girl already in there, making her bed. I quietly walked to the vacant bed and plopped down on the mattress.

"Hi!" She exclaimed. I stood up and smiled. "I'm Georgia."

I shook her hand. "Melody." I looked around the room and saw a third bed. "Who's there?"

"Oh her name is Sydney. She said she was going to the coffee shop." She said. "I can already tell we are going to be best friends!"

Georgia was pretty much perfect. Her smile was dazzling and her curly hair framed her face and bounced when she walked. Her brown eyes looked more gold than brown, giving them a sparkling look to them. She was short and petite and reminded me of a porcelain doll.

"I bet," I told her with a warm smile. She grinned and turned back to her work. "Look I need to go to the store to grab some stuff for my bed and such. Do you wanna come?"

Georgia turned and contemplated it a moment before nodding and following me out to my car.

"Thanks again for coming with me," I said to Georgia as we carried the stuff to the room.

"No problem!" She said.

Once we made it to our dorm, I realized that we both had our hands full. I kicked the door in hopes that this Sydney would be there. After a second, the door was opened by a tall, thin blonde.

"Thank you," I breathed in relief and pushed past her to my bed. I dropped everything on my bed a turned to shake her hand. "I'm Melody."

"Sydney." She said and shook my hand. She took a glance behind me at all my stuff. "Do you want help putting all that up?" I nodded gratefully.

Sydney was tall and thin, with blonde hair that reached her waist. She looked very athletic, and had an amazing smile and the bluest eyes you have ever seen.

Georgia and Sydney pulled out everything that was supposed to be hung up while I made my bed. When I finished that, I helped hang things up.

"What's this for?" Sydney held up a blue billboard.

"It's a place to put all my memories." I said. They all nodded I understanding.

"Here," Georgia said. "Let's make our first memory together!"

She pulled out her phone and went to her suitcase and grabbed a case that printed your pictures. She came back and held her phone out.

"Say 'cheese'!" She exclaimed. We all got in together and smiled. She took the picture. It came out the bottom. She handed the photo to me and I got a sharpie and put '9/01/15- first day in dorm' and stuck it to the billboard. I turned to Sydney and Georgia and smiled.

"This is going to be one heck of a year with us as friends." I said. They laughed and nodded.

"Why don't we go down to the coffe shop? There are a bunch of hot upperclassmen down there!" Sydney said with a grin. I nodded along with Georgia.

We followed Sydney down to the small coffee shop. When we entered, it was like all eyes were on us. Well, mostly Sydney and Georgia. We gave the person our order, and since Sydney insisted on paying, we put it under Sydney's name.

"You shouldn't have paid." I glared at Sydney.

"Yeah, I could've done it!" Georgia stated.

"No, I would've payed." I told Georgia. Sydney just shrugged.

"I am just a good friend." She said nonchalantly. I rolled my eyes. "Oh look who just came in!"

I turned and saw the most gorgeous guy. His eyes were green and he had curly hair. He reminded me of my favorite member of One Direction, Harry Styles. He looked at me and smiled.

This year was shaping up to be a good one.
