Prologue

In the year 2197, people started to get obsessed with matter manipulation and transmission. A couple named John and Elizabeth Chalk started it all. The farthest they got was creating a device that lets you transport an object from one place to another using the internet. They died on Aug 12, 2200 without finishing the research. Their daughter, Ellie Chalk, continued the research. Her parents left her a letter saying, "Dear Ellie. The time will come when we will meet again. Until that time comes, please continue our research. Love, your parents." 

 In her desire to meet face to face with her deceased parents again, Ellie started to conduct research for time travel. However, she only got to the point where she was able to make a giant teleportation device for animals. She deemed it dangerous for humans.

Ellie was considered as one of the most successful person in the world at the age of 25, but she did not enjoy life. She was found dead in the morning of August 14, 2207 due to sudden heart attack. Her invention became world famous after she died. It became a milestone in human history where man started to defy the rules of space and time. Now, a dead woman's dream will shape the the future, the present and the past.

A few years after the teleportation device for animals has been made, researchers thought of transporting human beings. Because of the advanced technology, it did not take long before the teleportation device for humans has been invented and it was called Paradox. Now humans have fully maximized the use of internet. People can now travel anywhere in the world where connection to the world wide web is available. All people think that this is the limit of travelling. However, is this really the limit?

This year is already the year 2307 and I live, or should I say lived, in this era. My name is Cray and I'm a nobody. However, something unexpected happened to this nobody, and now I'm going to tell you all about it.

Humans in this era can travel anywhere in the world where there is internet connection. People use bracelets made of Titanium called Paradox. It can be used with internet connection to travel anywhere with a single click. Just think about your destination and the computer will automatically update your target destination.

The Paradox also serve as a protection against radiation, because Nuclear bombings have made this world a giant wasteland. There are still places that have not been destroyed but in those places, radioactive contamination is as common as oxygen. People who remove their Paradox die after 3 days of not wearing it. And when a baby is born, that baby is injected with medications so as he or she grows up, the Paradox would be enough to him or her them live 50-60 years. Each Paradox can only be used by the same person, other people cannot borrow other's Paradox.

Now, I work in an electrical company. I am sent everyday to fix broken satellites and towers which provide electricity for a whole community. Our company works worldwide so I can be sent from our headquarters to any point in the planet.

One day, as I was resting, the boss told me to go to the Philippines and fix the electrical connections for Manila. I was sent there and unexpectedly, a violent storm came without warning. Phone lines were snapped from the tower and resulted to loss of internet connection. The Philippines is known to have the slowest internet connection since the 21st century and it has not changed since then, so as a result I was stuck on top of the tower.

Lightning suddenly hit me and I fell. When I hit the ground, the mud cushioned my fall. I became unconscious 5 seconds after I landed. I dreamt of something weird; I dreamt of the past. Then I awoke. The next thing I knew, I was in a totally different place. Someplace where the air felt refreshing. Another place or probably, another time.
