Morlicantha was not as large as she had looked on the ground. She was about the size of a giant horse, and barely able to bear Lincoln and the rest aloft.  Glunder seemed to totally regret his choice to use the dragoness as transportation, and was trying quite hard not to be sick.  Lincoln, however, loved the flight. The wind rushed through his fur, and for the first time since that morning, he felt safe. They cleared the town walls, and an empty expanse of desert unfolded before them. "So, where'd you guys want to go?" Morlicantha growled. Rise, who rode in the front, gestured to the right and replied, "Hamilton. About two week's flight that way." Morlicantha grumbled at that, but she banked right anyway. Lincoln sighed and settled back, gazing lazily down at the desert below.

They'd been in the air for about twenty minutes when it happened. A gunshot rang out, and something zipped past Lincoln's right ear.
