"Mom I'm going to the airport." I said walking down the hallway. "Mom?!" I yelled. "Mother?!" I walked around the whole house and didn't see her. "She must have forgotten about me leaving today. I would stop by her work but I have to go catch my flight." I said with a tear rolling down my cheek. I walked out of the apartment and got in the cab. It was an hour ride to the airport so I just talked to the cab driver. Once at the airport, I got out of the cab to get to my gate. At the gate I see a familiar face and with my friend Cassidy. It's my mom. "Mom!" I yelled and ran towards her. "You didn't think I would let you leave without saying goodbye did you?" She said as she wiped my tears away with her thumb. "No I didn't think you would." I said. She smiled and gave me a hug. "Goodbye Scarlett." She said and kissed my cheek. "Bye Cassidy. Take care of my mom till I can get her a plane ticket." I said and hugged her. She nodded as I hugged mom goodbye again. "Hurry up baby girl you're going to miss your flight." Mom said as she let a few tears leave her eyes. "I'll see you soon mom." I said and smiled as I walked pass the gate. I got on my plane and headed to New York City. "New York, here I come." I said.
6 hours later
I landed in the big Apple. "I can't believe I'm finally here." I say to myself as I walk out of the plane and yes I know it's corny but I couldn't resist. This has been a life long dream of mine to come all the way out here and get into a good job. So far I got hired yesterday for a internship to a major publisher named: The new Yorker it is my start at my publishing career maybe later I will move to a book company afterwards. This might just be temporary but I'm not sure yet. I walked towards the gate to see if I could find the person who will bring me to my new home. I see my name on a sign being held by an elderly man. "Hello sir, are you looking for me?" I asked. "Oh are you Scarlett Winter?" "Yes I am." "Okay. Please come with me. I am your drive home, your roommate Kassie sent me." Said the man. "Okay thank you." I said and followed him to the Uber. "So where are you coming from miss?" He asked as I put my stuff in the Cab and got in myself. "I'm from a small city in Canada, people would say it's non existent. The only way you could see it on the world map is a magnifying glass." We started driving to myself house I hope. "Is it that small miss?" "Oh yes sir. I come from Saint John." I said and looked out the window. "Huh I never heard of a Saint Johner coming out here to live, I always heard of visits. Not a lot of people want to stay here because of the "city never sleeps" thing. But once you get used to it is a good place sometimes." "Well I'll keep that in mind. Plus people would be surprised what I can sleep through." "Well miss I hope you like here." "Me too and you can call me Scarlett." "It's nice to meet you Scarlett and I'm Rajit." " Well it was nice to meet you too Rajit. Have a good one." "You too." He says. I grabbed my bag and stared at my front door. "Well here I go." I enter my building and I'm greeted by a huge flight of stairs. "Looks like I know what's going to kill me in the end." I sigh and walk up the huge flight of stairs. After about 10 minutes I finally make it to were I'm supposed to be. I knock on the door and I hear someone tell come in. I enter and I see a skinny, but short brunette with blue eyes and a cheerful smile. "Hi you must be Scarlett, I'm Kassie." "Hi Kassie, it's nice to meet you." I say and walk into my new home.
