~~Dream~~

"KRISTALYN!!! GO! RUN!"

"MOTHER!!!"

"GO KRISTALYN!!!"

"FATHER!!!"

I was pushed out the window and into the woods. I had no choice but to run. So I ran with tears in my eyes, knowing I would never see them again. It was all the wave of black magic's fault.

~~End of Dream~~

"NO!" I sat up in bed with sweat and tears dripping down my face. It had happened so long ago, yet I still had nightmares about it.

I wiped away the sweat and sighed. I got up and got dressed in my favorite knee length, frilly, spaghetti strapped dress. I had an early morning meeting with the Gem Side protection group. Ever since that night, I was determined to protect everyone I could from anything and everything I could.

Gem Side was the village I had stumbled upon after running away. The people here were kind enough to take me in, but, after they found out who I was, they wanted to worship me like I was some sort of Goddess.

I happened to be one of the eighteen people in the world born with a gem. It was a known fact that each person born with a gem could control that gem's power and their eye color would match the gems color perfectly. It was also known that people were only born with gems every one million years.

After quite a while of persuasion, I convinced the towns folk to treat me like a normal person. They still insisted that I learn to control my power, but that was something I wanted to do anyway.

I walked down the street to the center of town. I went inside the building there and sat in my usual seat. All but three gems lived in Gem Side. I knew two when I was little, but they went missing after the wave of black magic hit our village. The other gem...no one knew who or where they were, or if they even existed. Soon, the meeting was called to order.

"All right everyone. It's time. The once a month meeting where we, who can protect and ward things off, strengthen the magical barrier surrounding Gem Side. Are you all ready?", the protection group leader asked. He was born with the gem Zircon. He looked at me. "What about you, Kristalyn? Are you ready? We all know that you just gained control of your power a few months ago. If you don't think you can handle it, we won't make you." I looked up with a look of determination.

"No, I'm ready. Gem Side needs Peridot." I stood and joined hands with the others as they nodded in admiration and respect.

We all let the power build within us, allowing it to flow into the barrier to strengthen it. It was a painful process and often exhausted everyone. I tried to stay strong, despite the pain, but I couldn't. I let out a scream, but everyone knew it was only normal and continued. Once it was over, I collapsed in exhaustion. The group leader came over to me. "Are you okay, Kristalyn?"

I was gasping for air, but managed to respond. "I'm fine...I'm sorry to have worried everyone." I slowly got to my feet and smiled to reassure everyone.
I reached to the base of my skull and touched my gem, Peridot. It was warmer than usually. That was normal, too. I decided it would be best to relax for the rest of the day, so I headed out into town.

I should probably get some things for supper before I forget...and maybe some stuff to make a new necklace. After that I can take a walk and go to my favorite clearing in the woods.

I smiled to myself and carried out my plan. I bought ingredients for sandwiches and a silver chain, Peridot, and Moonstone for a necklace. I headed home.

When I got home, I sat down and made a necklace. I put a large tear drop shaped piece of Peridot in the middle of the chain and two small tear drop shaped piece of Moonstone on both sides of the Peridot. When it was finished, I put it on.

My favorite one yet!...Mother always liked Moonstone and Peridot...besides they're pretty!

I decided to make a sandwich or two and put them in a basket for my walk. When I finished, I headed into the woods. I walked for a good fifteen minutes before I finally made it to my favorite clearing in the woods. It was a secluded area that had an amazing view of the sky. I sat my basket down and walked to the center of the clearing and sang and danced as much as I wanted, as loud as I wanted. It felt amazing. Soon, the sun was almost all the way set.

I ran to my basket and brought it back to the center of the clearing. I ate my sandwich and, by the time I had finished it, the stars were out. I lied on my back and looked up at the stars. They twinkled like millions of gems, each one different than the others. Then I noticed a small light coming from my neck. I looked down at my neck to see that my necklace was glowing.

That's weird...none of my other necklaces have done this...I wonder why...

~~Somewhere Else Just A Little Earlier In Someone Else's Point Of View~~

I looked over at my friend beside me. We had been summoned to the same room as always to meet with the only person we ever met with. I didn't like it.

He's just going to ask the same question: 'Have you figured it out yet?' It's the same every time!

Sure enough, the man we always met with walked into the room. He just looked at us. He smiled, but his eyes said he thought of us as a last resort and scum.

"You haven't figured it out yet, so I can only assume that you are missing something. What are you missing?", the man said. I looked at him and figured that this was our chance to get someone else here to talk to. I smiled.

"Actually, you are missing something." He looked confused.

"What's he missing?", my friend spoke up. I gave her a death glare, telling her to shush.

"Well, we've been here for a very long time. Sure, we have the power to heal, but we lack the knowledge of how to find what is wrong and fix it. You need someone from the outside to help us. Three is better than two, right?", I said. He looked at me, seeming to give in.

"Very well, who do you need?", he asked. I looked to my friend and she nodded as if to tell me that she knew who I was going to say. I looked back at the man.

"Kristalyn Peridot."

~~Back To Where We Left Off With Kristalyn~~

My necklace was glowing, the Peridot and Moonstone. It was strange, especially since Peridot doesn't glow, it only sparkles and shines.

That's when I heard the blast. I looked up to see black and purple blasts coming from the direction of Gem Side. I quickly picked up everything and took off running towards Gem Side.

What awaited me there only brought back painful memories. Gem Side was being attacked with black magic.

How is this possible?! We just strengthened the barrier today!!

I dropped my basket as I was frozen in place in horror shock. I watched as the people I cared about were attacked over and over by the magic. I saw the woman that had raised me since I had came here being attacked. She had no way to protect herself. I ran towards her.

"No! Stop!" I screamed out desperately, but, before I got to her, she had the life sucked out of her. "NO!! HOW COULD SOMEONE DO SOMETHING SO CRUEL?!?!" I gripped my hands, which began glowing green with my power, and gritted my teeth. However, before I could do anything, I was restrained and hit over the head. Before I lost consciousness, I saw the black magic disappearing, leaving the destruction it had caused. Then I blacked out.
