Chapter 6

Niall groaned at Liam's question. How did the boys notice this before Alyssa? He'd always thought the situation would go something like him and Alyssa retelling their childhood memories to the boys.

"Maybe," Niall avoided answering the question directly and he hesitated slightly before continuing. "I mean... there's always a possibility that she's not the one I've been looking for, right?"

Louis grinned and started laughing, and his laughter was soon followed by the other boys'. Louis had an infectious laugh - Niall couldn't deny that - but he was confused.

"Louis, what's so... funny?" Niall's eyebrows rose in curiosity.

"You're whipped before you even know her!" Louis' laugh was getting louder. "I mean, you technically already know her, but you-"

"I get it Lou," Niall snapped. "And I'm not whipped. I'm just... curious."

"Say what you want mate, but we can see that you are," Liam smiled encouragingly - he found nothing wrong with Niall's situation. Liam had always thought that Niall needed to find a partner to spend his time with - the boys often felt bad for leaving Niall alone in their hotel when they were going to spend time with their girlfriends.

"You're teasing me too, Liam?" Niall groaned and stomped his feet against the carpet, much to the delight of the boys, who found everything Niall did funny.

"You guys..." Niall rolled his eyes. "You guys are too tired to see things from a clear perspective!"

Alyssa placed her pillow over her head, trying to block out the alarm clock's incessant ringing. She had slept for an estimated three hours, and she wasn't fit to walk outside, much less teach. Still, a job's a job, and she forced herself to walk to the toilet, and splashed her face with ice cold water in a feeble attempt to make her look awake.

90 minutes later

Yawning, Alyssa marked her attendance at the counter before walking down the corridor for a quick conversation with her best friend, who seemed pretty eager to say something. Probably about how tired I look, Alyssa thought wryly as she made her way towards Karla.

"God, Alyssa - you look terrible!" Karla commented honestly. While some people might not appreciate honesty, Alyssa found Karla's blunt honesty invaluable, having been the victims of many lies when she was young. Her best friend saying that he would be back for her, couples coming in and saying that she was their 'ideal child' but never returning... the list was endless.

"I know, I know," Alyssa took her best friend's comment easily. "I just... didn't get such a good sleep last night."

Karla nodded sympathetically before walking into her classroom, leaving Alyssa in the corridor, feeling guilty. She knew that she should have told Karla about her meeting with the famous boy band, and that she should have told her that she had developed an unlikely friendship with some of the members. But she was still reluctant - she was afraid that this friendship wouldn't last for long. After all, they were global superstars, and that meant a lot of travelling... and ultimately leaving.

"Miss A! You're late by a minute!" She heard one of her students shout, and she quickened her pace as she walked towards the classroom.

Think about it later Alyssa, focus on the present, she reminded herself before she opened the door to the classroom.
