Chapter 9: Nodes?

"I have vocal nodules Beca! It's the constant running together of your vocal chords at above average rates without proper lubrication! They sit on your windpipe and crush your dreams..."

"Isn't that painful? Why would you keep singing?"

"Because I love to sing! I'm going to the doctor to find out when my surgery is so I can finally get them removed, it's a very courageous decision but I need this to be done ASAP."

"How dangerous is this surgery? " Beca asks leaning back and forward on her heels while bouncing up and down, I can hear the worry in her voice and she starts picking at her fingernail, a habit that she has doing when she's nervous. I put my hands on either side of her shoulders to get her to stop, I glide my arms down hers and when I reach her hands I intertwine our fingers and can see her cheeks slightly redden at the sudden actions of mine.

"Not really dangerous at all actually I-"

"How is it life threatening so?" Beca interjects, she's even more confused now than ever and her eyebrows are lowered and her head is slightly tilted to the side, she looks like a little puppy oh my god! "Because Beca, it could mean I could lose my voice and never sing again!" Beca laughs immediately and shakes her head, she slightly squeezes my hands and rubs her thumbs over mine. "That was such a Chloe thing to say." I smirk amusingly at her and I just stare at her as I see her smiling at our intertwined fingers, we stay like that for awhile before I break the comfortable silence. "What do you mean by 'a very Chloe thing to say?' " I ask in a mocking tone, Beca doesn't look up she just grins to herself and I can see the blush returning to her face. "You know something that's so over the top and dramatic but it's also very endearing, cute and well.... You!"

Now it's my time to blush and I let go of Beca's right hand and guide her into my dorm, I close the door behind me and tell her to wait on the couch while I grab my bag. When I come back two minutes later I see a very angry and agitated Beca throw her phone to the other side of the sofa. "Everything okay?" I ask worriedly as I walk slowly over to the young brunette. Beca lets out a frustrated sigh while nodding and running a hand through her hair. "Crystal. Won't. Leave. Me. The. Fuck. Alone!" She yells as she slams her hands down on the sofa either side of her thighs.

"You could just block her number? Clingy ex's are annoying maybe then she'll get the hint and back off?" Beca ponders it for a moment and I can hear her mutter 'fuck it' under her breath as she takes her phone from the couch and with a few clicks she lets out a sigh of relief and says "Blocked!" I smile widely at her and gesture for her to get up and I let her out the door first closing it behind me but not before I get a good look at her ass, it's seriously perfect! I'm so gay. I say to myself as I walk out and shut the door behind me.

Beca and I are patiently waiting in the waiting room, I am flicking through a magazine and Beca is scrolling through Twitter on her phone. I come across the fashion section and my eyes widen and I immediately nudge Beca who turns her head to look at the magazine and just scoffs and says "Camila is better." I gently smack her on the arm and she rubs it slowly while sarcastically saying "Ouch Beale! I could die from a hit THAT hard!" I glare at her but she just chuckles and alights at me.

"Next time I'll hit you harder." Beca winks at me, "Kinky, will there be handcuffs too?" I roll my eyes and get back to flicking through the magazine, I nudge Beca again but she doesn't budge, I continue to nudge her until she does and when I've nudged her enough for her to get annoyed she turns to me and shouts "WHAT!?" Which causes a few people to turn their heads and tell her to shush, she mouths a quick 'sorry' and when she looks at the magazine again shouts even louder- half of it not even being in English!
