"I don't care!" I yell, for what seems like the millionth time. "This audition means a lot to me and I'm going whether you want me to or not!"

"Fine!" Darcy retorts, "Just don't expect me to be there for you when you fail!"

We both storm off in opposite directions. It's not fair! Just because I got a place in the final audition and she didn't. We both know that I would've been happy for her if it had been the other way round, as it so often is with these plays. And besides, she doesn't turn eight for another four months, whereas I already have. She can audition again next year, I can't.

I stride down the road and don't stop until I get home. I expect to hear Darcy's front door slam a few houses down, but I don't. Good; I want to be as far away from her as possible right now.
