I wanted to run, I wanted to run and until my throat clenched up and my lungs seared like the burning look in his eyes. My legs turned to jello, my legs gave out but Carla held me close to his chest.
"Don't worry darling, We'll be going home now." He whispers kissing my hair tenderly
"I don't want go with you... I wanna go to my real home, to my family." I can't help but weep into his chest.
"We are a family now. There's no Shin in the way, we can be together forever." He says hoisting me fully into his arms, carrying me out of the bathroom.
"Where's Subaru, I wanna see Subaru..."
"Oh I had to get rid of him, he tore us apart, and I wasn't about to let that happen again."
I try to ignore the sharp edge on his voice and the tensing of his grip at the mention of Subaru. So I held my tongue, maybe Shin had fared better against Carla's wrath.
We arrived at the mansion, but the air was different. It wasn't welcoming or warm, it was cold, harsh, and worn from containing the sad memories within. I get settled in once more, but in his room this time.
"You should get some rest, you look tired." Carla sighs taking my hand.
"I'm fine, I'm not tired..." I say jerking it away, turning away from him in the bed. His hand reaches over to encircle my waist but he draws in back instead. Maybe he'd finally gotten the hint I didn't want to be there anymore. It was a couple of hours but Carla finally fell asleep and I managed to slip out into the hall. I tip toed down to the basement, hoping there would be an exit there. It was pitch black and an unfriendly dampness occupied the space. I pulled out my lighter, the tiny flame allowed me to see an inch in front of me at best. I felt along the wet stones, searching for a loose stone or something, anything. But then something cold gripped my ankle like a vice. I wretched free, tripping and falling hard onto the rough ground. Regaining my thoughts I frantically swept for the lighter, igniting the flame and bringing light into the world once more. I hesitantly looked to see what had grabbed me and it nearly took my
breath away.
"Shin... Oh god Shin you're alive..."
