Chapter 3 - A New Headmaster, A New Start

*Note: First off, I realize Remus Lupin died at the battle of Hogwarts, but, well... I want to change it a bit, because I think there's going to be a part later on which he's needed for. Secondly, sorry for the long - and I mean long - period of time it took me to upload. Hopefully, I'll get things going quicker from now on. Read on and comment. :]

An instant outbreak of noise followed this predicament. Students were turning to their neighbours to discuss this new piece of information. Some wore surprised looks on their faces, others nonchalant. Whispers were thrown across the room like a muggle basketball, theories becoming increasingly wild. One such pair, for instance, was Melanie Yule and Eric

‘A new headmaster’?! What’s this about?!”

“It’ll be one of the teachers.”

“Maybe it’s Professor Lupin?”

“Nah, he’s been at Hogwarts for quite a while, now…”

“Exactly!”

“I doubt it. Besides, I hear he’s retired a while ago.”

“Aw, really?”

“Mhm.”

“What about... What’s-his-face… Dean Thomas? Eddie told me his dad was with the school board.”

“The school board, Mel. Not the headmaster’s position. The school board.”

“Riiiight. Well… who else is there? Oh, maybe it’s that guy.”

“Who?”

“Eric, look over there… beside Professor Longbottom.”

“But that’s Coach Potter!”

“I know that’s Coach Potter, and besides, why would she leave? Hello, she played for the bloody Harpies, they probably want to keep her. And besides… she’s too fun to become headmistress. I was talking about the other one. On Professor Longbottom’s other side. The tall one with the red hair. And the glasses.”

“Oh, Mr. Weasley?”

“Yeah, him.”

All the while, Percy Weasley stood silently, observing the hundreds of students. Professor McGonaggal raised her hand, a somewhat watery smile on her face. “Now, you’ll all be curious as to who the new candidate is… but before I announce his name, I’ll say this; We will be working together to improve Hogwarts as much as we possibly can, and I ask you to aid our new Headmasster as much as possible. Now, please welcome to our school – Professor Weasley.

The hall was silent, and somewhere in the back, a pin did drop. And it was heard. A small clatter; a miniature bell sound. And then, the Great Hall erupted in applause. Rose caught her uncle’s gaze and winked. He seemed a little nervous, but then again, as he spent the morning telling himself, it was a big job.

After a long speech – Rose prided herself on filtering through it all while prodding James and nagging him to listen (and for some reason, none of her cousins were very attentive when it came to this sort of thing) – the feast began. Sheppard’s pie. Vegetables. Pasta. Steak and kidney pie. Fish. Pumpkin juice. Tea. Lemonade. Every food imaginable was laid out before them, and then came dessert.

It was with a full stomach and a warm, sleepy fuzz sort of feeling inside her that Rose finally went to bed. After a brief introduction with her dorm girls, she turned over in bed, put her head on the soft pillow, murmured a vague ‘goodnight’ to the four girls whose names were already forgotten, and fell fast asleep.

**Note: Yes, I already know I had a note at the top, but I'm gonna include another one. I hhad my plot though out, but what I think that I'm gonna do is go through a few years in one chapter later on so that the characters are older when, erm, a certain something happens. Thoughts? Comment... Pwetty please? Thanks, whether you're gonna comment or just gonna put this in your library. Means you're reading. >:D Adios, munchkins. Or super-tall people. I ain't picky. :]
