"The System"

school, school, and more school
the more tests i take, the more i feel like a fool.
i come here with an open mind,
hoping to learn something new,
but the more and more they teach me,
the more i feel mentally through.

they try to shove the white man's lies
down my cerebral,
constantly learning about how, "separate is equal"
but separate is not equal
equal is equal
education is like the white man's movie,
and only they have the sequal.

on the first day of school, they tell us
what we'll be learning.
we spend 2 days learning about slaves,
and tracking their "journey"
but my journey had nothing to do with being a slave,
why don't we talk about African American leaders,
and the road for me in which they paved?

i wanna learn about Huey P. Newton
and Malcolm X
we should be raising NEW black leaders in this time of unrest.

so if you're not gonna teach us to be independent or how to write a check,
at least teach us to survive,
instead of dying when we protest
