Chapter 13 - Harry

Start from the beginning

At some point, we had to stop talking 'cause our dinner had finally arrived. I laughed as I heard Mark sighing in relief, since he had no dreams to share with us but the fact that he really wanted to get to the last level of one of his favorite X-box games. Seriously, apparently that was the only goal he had on his whole life. As soon as he'd reached it, he'd just buy another game and start it all over again. It wasn't really a surprise he and Davie didn't have a girlfriend yet. Who would even like guys like that?

Mark coughed and I looked at him, confused, and he just pointed at the girls with his head. Ok, I was getting lost on my own thoughts again. I should probably stop doing that.

"Umm, if you excuse us, we're going to the ladies room." Leigh said, and I just nodded while putting the fork with my Ravioli inside my mouth.

Once they were gone, Mark slightly slapped the back of my head.

"Was that supposed to hurt or...?" I teased, and his eyebrows furrowed in anger.

"You got here freaking late, and you're still acting like a jerk. Can you at least pretend you're interested in what they say?" he rolled his eyes. "For God's sake, Leigh is totally into you! She's smart, funny, pretty... Why can't you just have fun?"

He wasn't lying. Leigh was pretty, with her dark blonde hair, chocolate brown eyes and that sweet smile of hers. Even the way how she made weird noises while giggling was charming, I must admit. And no doubts she was freaking smart; I mean, engineering? She was almost like an Einstein for me. There was also clear she was trying to flirt with me, but seriously, I wasn't on the mood for having fun. My fun now could be described by the warm and lonely comfort of my bed. But of course, Mark wouldn't understand that.

"I was paying attention to what they were saying." I finally said, trying to avoid his last topic.

"Don't drop the subject; find something nice to talk about. Ok? Here they come. Just have fun, mate."

--

"Fun." Also known as three hours sitting in that damn table with two surprisingly funny girls and a shameless friend who tried to flirt with one of them basically at every single second. Even I was getting mad at him, so I couldn't even imagine how Savanna was feeling. Basically because she had no more excuses to avoid his attempts, so she just felt uncomfortable most part of the time. The poor girl was really blushing and the other one next to her couldn't hide the amused smile playing on her lips. Girls could be mean at each other sometimes; I just couldn't understand why Leigh didn't rescue Savanna when Mark was about to make the blonde explode.

Whatsoever, there was nothing she could do now that Mark had taken her friend to wherever he wanted to while I had to drive her home. Our little walk 'till my car was quite uncomfortable, but probably not more uncomfortable than when we were inside it.

All the time she kept her hands on the pockets of her jacket, staring at the floor under her feet until I finally opened the door for her. She awkwardly smiled and got in, resting her head on the window until I finally got into the car as well. She then peered at me for a while, going back to her previous position right after. Leigh seemed kind of far and I couldn't understand why. A few minutes earlier she and Savanna were having stomachaches for so much laugher and now she was distant. Maybe she didn't feel comfortable away from her friend, or maybe I was making her uncomfortable. Either way, I didn't dare to ask. I wasn't feeling any well alone with a girl in my car either. It's been a while since I'd been alone with a girl, indeed. And honestly, I didn't miss it. Not at all.

I groped my pockets, looking for the keys of the car, until I heard the sound of them between my hands. Sighing, I finally put it in the ignition, and before turning it, I looked at Leigh again. This time I couldn't ignore the fact that she was really quiet, her head down; her hands nervously playing on her lap.
