"I’m gonna be late,” I’d said before Mark started yelling at me on the other side of the call. I knew from the very beginning what would be his reaction, but to be quite honest, I didn’t care. If I was going to be the clown of the double date, I wasn’t going to dress like it. I’d have to go to Charlie’s first, if he still wanted me there to help him.

He said a few things that I didn’t really want to hear, but I also said things no one would like to hear. Mark was such a pain-in-the-ass sometimes. I couldn’t even believe I’d said yes to another one of his dates. It was probably going to go nowhere as usual and I was sick of handling the situation for him.

When the girl walked next to my car carrying her bloody boyfriend, I hung up the phone and let myself stare at Leroy’s sister for a while, feeling sorry for her. The guy really seemed to be one of the bad ones. He wasn’t even awake, and she was probably dying to support his weight over her fragile body. Before I could even think, I was next to her, taking him off her shoulders and placing his probably broken body on the backseat of my car.

She wasn’t really friendly, even when someone offered her help, but still, as the good citizen I was, I made sure to drive him home and put him in his couch. Then she asked me to go back at Lana’s and there I was, waiting for her to grab her stuff and call Angel.

“I’m really sorry for making you wait, I just had to pick these things.” I shook my head, not even caring a bit about the fact that she had taken a while to get ready. The wind outside was refreshing and I wasn’t any eager to go back to where Leroy’s sister was. “Angel! C’mon, she’s waiting for us.” Lana turned around, putting Angel’s coat on the girl and running inside my car. “Thanks for the ride, by the way.”

“No problem,” I said as I walked around the Ranger Rover until I reached my seat. We drove ‘till the guy’s place in silence, except for the moments when Angel got curious about something in my car and started messing with it, making Lana whisper reproachfully at her before falling into the silence again.

It didn’t take long until I was parked in front of the house, and Lana quickly walked inside with Angel holding her hand. She seemed so worried it actually scared me; what was she even going to do? When I got off the car and leaned on the doorframe, the answer came to my eyes: Lana was a doctor. When she opened her bag a few medical tools were splattered around the floor, and she kneed next to the guy, taking a good look at him while Leroy’s sister reluctantly walked to the kitchen with Angel. Without being invited, I walked in, but Lana didn’t even turn around to face me; she was just too busy taking care of the bloody guy.

In the kitchen, I found the little and the big girl talking; Angel sitting on the table while the older one had a pot on her hands. They both stopped when they realized I was standing there, and I just awkwardly smiled, suddenly feeling uncomfortable for being there.

“Uhn… I… I was just wondering if you’d have something for me to remove this.” I pointed at my face, and Angel smiled.

“You look funny with it. Without the clothes and stuff, you know.” She said, raising to her feet and walking towards me. “Kirs, can I get your makeup remover?” ‘Kirs’ eyes shot open for some reason I didn’t understand, but she nodded, carefully, pointing at somewhere in the house.
